What's the Name of That Book??? discussion

In about 2008-2010ish I read the first and second book in the series. From what I can remember the first book was called something like 'Private Morgan' set in WWII.

Both books focused on father and son relationships e.g. Grandfather Morgan was in WWI as an officer and had a bad relationship with his son, so during WWII the son was set against becoming an officer.

The second book was set during the Vietnam War and was the reverse of the first.

Both protagonists in the books were snipers or the equivalent.

Both books were most likely not published before 2004ish.

I do know there was a third book going to be released in about 2009-2010ish, I believe to be set in the Middle East.
