Wow! That is really interesting. Thanks for posting this. I will read these later.
I had heard that the scene which appears in both the films (when Wentworth is instructed to deliver the message to Anne that the Crofts would move out so she and Mr Ellliot can have their house back) was a cut scene from the book.

I knew about this endind because it was in my Italian edition together with the ending we all know. However I prefer the "letter solution", I think it's much more romantic and in Austen-style.Taliking about the ending, it's a pity that everything solves so quickly, I would have prefered to know more about their courtship and marriage. Maybe Jane Austen planned to write something more while revising but she didn't have the chance to do that :(
I did not know anything about this ending! Thank you Chahrazad. I agree with you, Irene. The novel ends too quickly but perhaps it was wanted since Jane describes the story of Anne and Wentworth's love through the whole novel, so I think she simply wanted to give them their happily ever after without further explanations :)
Yep, I just found about a different ending a few weeks ago in A Memoir Of Jane Austen. I am also glad she did a revision. The scene building up to the letter is one of her best written,in my opinion.
Very interesting.I always thought the novel ended quickly because Jane realizes that these two are really adults and they don't have to go through more hesitations before they get together.

Apparently Austen has changed the original ending of the book. One of the the ending was kept for the 2007 BBC adaptation!
