Gerald Camp (gerryc) Has anybody read "Prince Ombra" by Roderick MacLeish? A friend tells me it's his favorite book. Since we don't have it in the English library here in San Miguel, Mexico, I will have to order it online. Tell me about it so I'll know if I want to order it. Thanks.

Jim (jimmaclachlan) I haven't read it, but there are quite a few reviews of it. Most seem to think it's a great teen novel. More here:

Gerald Camp (gerryc) Jim,
Thanks to the links to reviews. I'm a newbie, so I haven't figured out how to access reviews yet. All I can say about the comments is Wow! I need to get this book right away! Since I am a young teen (age 70) and my favorite books include "His Dark Materials" this sound's like I need it right away! Who knows how much longer I'll be a young teen?

Jim (jimmaclachlan) I don't know, Gerald. My wife keeps hoping I'll grow up, too. I have another 20 years to make your mark, so there is hope I'll hold out!

Glad to turn you on to a new feature. Goodreads has a lot of them & they're not always intuitive, but keep fiddling & you'll find a way to do most anything you want.

I read Pullman's trilogy shortly after it came out. I must say I'm surprised it got such good reviews. I thought it was OK, but nothing great. I didn't consider it a teen trilogy, either. So much for my opinion.

I compared our books & think you might enjoy This Immortal by my favorite author, Roger Zelazny. It's a quick read, but best on a second or third read. Then you know the story & can appreciate all the allusions better.

Gerald Camp (gerryc) Thanks, Jim, I'll check out the Zelazny. I get books I don't own from our English language library here in San Miguel. Since I brought 35 boxes of unread books here three years ago when my wife and I retired, my wife frowns on me ordering too many from Amazon. I don't read a lot of sf/fantasy, since I'm embarked on 1001 Books You Must Read Before You Die, and I still have over 700 to go to ensure that I'll get into heaven. I did just read a classic I brought with me, "Way Station" by Clifford D. Simak. What I liked about this book was that 20 pages from the end I was certain there was no way the story could not end in total disaster But then . . .
