Ruud Lee (ruudvanderlee) | 2 comments I finished it last week! What did you think? Did it meet your expectations?

message 13: by Michael (new)

Michael Lavin | 16 comments I actually really enjoyed it I didn't think I would enjoy it as much as I thought. Being involved with the characters all these years I as a reader almost feel as though I know Fitz as a person and have lived his life with him. Does that make sense? Do you feel the same way? I am very excited and hope the rest of the series is as good as this book. I really love the fact that night eyes is still with him and am very intrigued by Bee. I don't remember if in any of the series Robin did a diff POV. I love the fact that for a change we get Bees Pov I think it adds a great dimension to the story and keeps it fresh? Now what did you think???

Ruud Lee (ruudvanderlee) | 2 comments I know what you mean when you say that you kind of "know" Fitz. The way Hobb tells the story it's kind of like you're living it with him...When a book is really good I often wonder a couple a years later if I've seen the movie or read the book , because of the vivid images in my mind.
I'm always glad to read something about nighteyes and am looking forward to more details on the "wolffather dreams" Bee has.
I can't recall if she wrote in different POV's before, I don't think so, but I liked it also! It's fun to read about the same event from Bee's eyes.

I read some reviews where people are complaining about the pace of the book: Too slow, nothing really happens etc..I have to agree with them, but it didn't bother me at all! I felt like Hobb was slowly setting the stage for the next books which is okay with me if it's a good story (and with a story about Fitz, I don't think we will be disappointed)
Two things I found annoying: the new characters:Shun and Fitzvigilant... I didn't think they added a lot to the story, especially Shun. On the other hand, Malta also bugged me at first :) Maybe we'll hear some interesting things about them in the next books.
The fact that Fitz never linked his knowledge obout "whites" to his daughter....the man reads a LOT and had a friend just like her...come on Fitz...

But overall I was just so glad to read a new Fitz story that I can't wait for the next book to come!

Loved that movie, AND loving the book, I'm nearly done and can't wait to discuss.
But thought I should reply to your comment! (it's like an itch)
yes I'm loving Bee's POV, she's such a smart girl I was so impressed with the way Robin slowly brings her in. From the pregnancy up until her sudden ability to make whole sentences and speak. Was it her tongue? I'm assuming it is, because she never mentions it, emphasis instead is focused on her shyness. But she's not shy, her outspokenness with Fitz so refreshing and brutally honest. I look forward to her POV's. I am beyond thrilled that I'm reunited with Fitz, it's been so long, and Wolf-Father! I never realised how much I missed Nighteyes, I can't imagine how Fitz must be feeling.

Although I am wondering for anyone who read the Rain Wild Chronicles, (view spoiler) I love how everything is connected somehow, and I'm hoping the Fool will show up before I'm finished.

Anyways I'm going to read some more...

Michael Lavin | 16 comments Lina so happy you enjoyed it and I did not read the rain wild chronicles I followed the Fitz series.... Assassins apprentice and tawny man series and now this! Can't wait for the next one! Like a old friend coming back to visit!

Ok so I just edited my earlier comment to include a spoiler. Sorry I just assumed everyone read the RainWild series. Anyways I really hope you don't remember what I "spoiled" =(((

Wait a minute, you have't read the Liveship Traders either?! you should get to that I think.... the Fool makes an appearance there, that's all I'm going to say!

I can't wait either for Fool's Quest, yup it's already on GR.

I also read some reviews (mainly Amazon and GR) about how slow the pace is. That is Hobb's writing style people! Thank God it's about characters we actually like, though it's unfortunate to read some reviews where some people didn't like Bee.(view spoiler)

Brenda ╰☆╮ (brnda) | 11 comments Sigh....so many books so little time.

I expect to love them all, but yes haven't read all of Liveship or Rainwilds.
Been stuck lately.
:(

Felicear | 3 comments Hello!
I am new to this group and very excited to be here.

So about reading the entire series (including Liveships/Rainwilds books and all the associated trilogies) ...I admit the whole Liveship idea did not appeal to me very much. So on the first reading I skipped that part of the Elderlings series. By the time I finished all the books I had planned to read originally I was totally addicted to the series...so back I went. I am very glad I did. The Liveship/Rainwild books add much dimension and complexity to the stories.

~Spoilers Maybe~
Okay...so at this moment in time the first two books of the 'Fitz and the Fool Trilogy' have been published. I am waiting with baited breath for the third. I was really depressed after reading the first book. Everything seemed so bleak. I was reluctant to start the second book in the series and am so GLAD I did. I thought it was wonderful! It has fired my brain will all sorts of fancies about what might happen next.

So some of my fancies about what the future holds for Fitz and the Fool....
will Fitz end up becoming an Elderling?
Either because of their joining or because of a Dragons favor?
And if so will Fool be discovered to be a female so their relationship can develop into one of romance, as well?
And if they both become Elderlings will they be able to share a long future together?
Will a way be found for them to remain together?
How far will the story go before Fitz tells the Fool about Bee's prophecies? Sometimes Fitz is so brilliant and sometimes incredibly oblivious.
If they review Bee's prophecies will it help them conquer their enemies and retrieve Bee?
Will Fitz ever be brave enough to try to heal Fools sight?
Will it turn out that the White Servants have done horrible things to the Serpents and dragons?
Are the bones of the school built on former Dragons? Will the Dragons join forces to demolish the evil of the Servants?
Will it be discovered that the Servants are responsible for the near total destruction of the Elderlings and Dragons?
There are so many possibilities. It seems impossible that all these things could be accomplished in the single book required to complete the series.

I would really enjoy discussing any ideas of what the future may hold for Fitz and the Fool.

:)

I think that what you said about the Whites is extremely likely. These have also been my thoughts when reading the book. Everything else you have said I hope happen.

Amanda,
I hope so too! Do you have any other fancies about what might happen in Fitz and the Fool's future? I am really looking forward to seeing what happens next!
:)

message 23: by Amanda (new)

Amanda Carr | 7 comments While reading the book I was certain that the bones of the school, as you've said belong to the dragons and I also think that they were the ones that wiped out the Elderlings. As to Fitz and the Fool. I think there may be a possibility that Fitz could become an Elderling as that would also help the series continue for a number of years. The Fool however will not need to become an one as the Whites live longer lives anyway. However if he was to bond to a dragon the dragon would be able to give him his sight back. As to the Fools sex. I am torn between if he's male or female but I do hope he and Fitz come together no matter what gender he is though I think this unlikely.
I'm hoping to see Bee's character develop further and I think it would be good if she was to be the hero of the story.
I'm thinking also there may be a possibility the Whites are females;
The Fool for example and Bee was known to the Whites as a girl but they chose to call her "son" and "brother" there is also the other white(can't remember the name) who is called a boy during the book but is said to look female.

Jen (jporjw) | 1 comments Hello, I found this string because I just finished Fool's Quest. After realizing that I have finally caught up to the end of the series, I am also starting to fantasize about what the third installment will bring. I like the ideas present by Felicear. I also suspect perhaps the servants are related to the creatures who imprisoned the the Treasure Island serpent of the Liveship series. I am eagerly awaiting the next adventure of Fitz and the Fool.

message 25: by Felicear (new)

Felicear | 3 comments Amanda and Jennifer, I think you are both on to something! I think it is possible the Whites are all anatomically female...or maybe hermaphrodite. Also....it does seem possible the servants and/or Whites might be related to the "Abominations"....if I got it right...the "Abominations" are the results of Dragon\Human bonds becoming too close.

Well....we shall see! And I can honestly say, I can not wait!

message 26: by Silvana (new)

Silvana (silvaubrey) They can be bred so I think they have normal human anatomy. It is just that the Fool is more asexual compared with the white lady in the Tawny Men trilogy.

message 27: by Silvana (new)

Silvana (silvaubrey) Does anybody know when the third book is coming? And is this gonna be a trilogy or probably ends up like the Rainwilds books?

message 28: by Fiona (new)

Fiona Pagett | 3 comments Any update on the third book, or has it been published and I have just missed it

Matthew Clanahan (matthewclan) | 4 comments The third book is titled Assassin's Fate and is scheduled for a March 2017 release in the United States.

message 31: by Tommi (new)

Tommi Henttinen | 1 comments SPOILERS BEWARE! The beginning of the second book was so amazingly satisfying (the identity revelation to the court). I had to take time after that, to let the whole big story to sink in.

I have been with this tale from the beginning. Assassins apprentice was the first fantasy book I ever red and to this day it is my all-time favourite. The journey has been long but the satisfaction, when it comes, is all the more gratifying. To be able to grow along with the Fitz is privilege and I have to thank Robin Hobb for the opportunity.

So thank you! Kiitos!

For me the series has already redeemed its promise and rest is a honorarium to the readers.

message 32: by Jax (new)

Jax Knowing that I wouldn't be happy waiting between books, I collected, and patiently waited to read them - And I was right! I would have been distraught if I hadn't had Fool's Quest immediately on hand after the end of Fool's Assassin!

So, while I am rather late to the party....

Michael wrote: "Being involved with the characters all these years I as a reader almost feel as though I know Fitz as a person and have lived his life with him. Does that make sense? Do you feel the same way?"

Absolutely! Perhaps too much.
And not only with Fitz. (view spoiler)

Tommi wrote: "SPOILERS BEWARE! The beginning of the second book was so amazingly satisfying (the identity revelation to the court)."
I agree, and disagree.
...the disagreement? - because I was mentally yelling - "enough about these stupid parties!! You need to discover (view spoiler) and this is only going to add more complications!!"

I have so very many more thoughts, and questions, and suppositions...
