Jeremy Megraw (jmegraw) | 29 comments I'd read more if only they were translated in English, been trying to find a copy of Lime's Photograph. Interested in Matti Rönkä too.

message 4: by Ken (new)

Ken Fredette (klfredette) I've read 11 of them.

Anna (aetm) | 192 comments Hey, that sounds like a fun project for reads.
I've read 9 - If I remember right Tainted Blood was also published as Jar City.

Quickly glanced this seems to be the same list
https://www.goodreads.com/list/show/2..., in case it makes it easier for your bookstore shopping list.
(although it would make no sense for others to be able to add more books to the list)

Andy 5 from the list here!

Homicidal Muffin (cecchig) @ Anna, Kenneth, Andy - I have read 6 though not in order of win date, I will try and fill in now.
What I want to know any stand outs to you???
A few I don't know that I will enjoy as I'm not big on ghost stories but I will read as they are list winners. I guess I need to explore and find out for myself. Again, I just wondered if they was something you werent thrilled with but ended up really enjoying. Also, how to I get hold of something like "Beast" when the only onese I see for sale are literally 100.00!!!

message 8: by Andy (new)

Andy Aye the Beast isn't cheap over here neither although you can get via amazon at the UK address for under a tenner. Tried the library yet?

ive read

2002 - Arnaldur Indriðason - Tainted Blood -Iceland
2003 - Arnaldur Indriðason - Silence of the Grave -Iceland
2006 - Stieg Larsson - The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo
- Sweden
2008 - Stieg Larsson - The Girl Who Kicked the Hornets' Nest - Sweden
2010 - Jussi Adler-Olsen - The Keeper of Lost Causes - Denmark

& loved them all! Have read other books by Roslund & Hellstrom too which are a good read.

Anna (aetm) | 192 comments I liked Faceless Killers - it was I guess the hit needed for getting the Scandi crime to be popular (outside Scandinavia) again. But The Dogs of Riga was much better.
And anything by Jo Nesbø, Karin Fossum, and Karin Alvtegen are wins for me. And Stieg Larsson. I do find it a bit odd that there are two of Arnaldur's books on the list; to me they all (his books that is) seem to follow the same formula. Maybe once would have been enough?
I haven't tried that Håkan Nesser, but if it's a Van Veeteren one, I'll pass.

How to get hand to a more rare one that's too pricy you ask..? Suggest your local library to get a copy if they don't already have. It being a winner is a good reason enough. Use your local library, people :)

Diane S ☔ I have read quite a few, but thanks for the list I printed it out and will look for the ones I haven't read and of course the ones that are translated.

Helen | 55 comments I take notice of the Glass Key winners. I am going through a G W Leif Persson stage. Loved Johan Theorin and now this author. Linda as in the Linda murder. Great

Andy (millermoto) | 1 comments thanks for this. now I just need to learn a few more languages ;-)

Anna (aetm) | 192 comments Weell... you could get started here :)

Those are all by FSI, Foreign Service Institute, so those were tailored for the American diplomats. PDFs and audio files for your own use for free. And for a lot of other languages too...
Of those I'd recommend Swedish. If you learn one, you could in theory learn the other ones (= Swedosj/Norwegian/Danish and maybe Icelandic, and definitely not Finnish) easier.

Brad | 15 comments Just FYI, there was a mistranslation on wikipedia for a while on the 2010 winner. Jussi Adler-Olsen won for his third book in the Department Q series titled "A Conspiracy of Faith" in America. Not his first book "The Keeper of Lost Causes."

Getting through the glass key award winners was my goal as well, and I'm happy to say I've read all the ones that are available in America and all but one of the ones available in English. (I'm waiting on "The Beast" until I can find a copy for under US$10).

My favorites were Johan Theorin (The Darkest Room) and Hakan Nesser (Carambole/The Hour of the Wolf). Henning Mankell is a great introduction to Nordic Noirs. I also very much like Leif Persson, but I don't believe the Dying Detective is available in English.

I didn't particularly like Lime's Photograph, The Bat, or the last of the Stieg Larssons. I'm debating whether to give Nesbo another chance.

Anna (aetm) | 192 comments Give Nesbø another chance.

I gave Nesser a second chance (but that was it, no more Nesser for me).

message 16: by Martha (new)

Martha (marthas48) I've read 4 of them and will be reading Nesbo's The Bat soon. I've thoroughly enjoyed them all & will read more.

message 17: by Martha (new)

Martha (marthas48) Oops I've read 5. Forgot Tainted Blood was Jar City. I do recommend Nesbo. Have read 2 others of his and loved them ... The Redbreast & Headhunters.
