William T Vollmann Central discussion

I haven't seen any official announcement about this one yet. But it would seem to be the fictional counterpart to The Book of Dolores.

Oh yeah okay VERY interested here.

A ten page (unexceptionable) excerpt from How You Are is included in The Speed Chronicles, "no matter how beautifully it stings". Not only unexceptionable, but rather disappointing ; this is not a piece that'll make you sing Vollmann's prosaic talents. But Dolores is in it.

It looks like Viking is finally taking a look at How You Are. According to the document linked below, we can expect it in 2019 ::

Damn....first I have to put up with people posting pics of their ARC of the Saunders novel on twitter a year before it's released. Now I have to sit with the knowledge that the next dream probably won't be until at least 2023.

Not necessarily, but very likely. I don't think either Dream is very far along. Cloud-Shirt is at least begun ;; The Poison-Shirt? I don't think he even knows what that one's about yet. But, of the three announced in that announcement, two are finished ; so no doubt he's got some time somewhere in there to at least work occasionally on the Dreams. Fingers=crossed.

Just kidding of course. After being a fan of Bill's since the early days when we could get at least one book a year, things feel a bit slow now. This sudden burst of releases, even if over a five year period, is very welcome news.

Yeah. I doubt that Viking wants to do more than a book every other year ;; but there's always Ecco and PowerHouse--possibly we might see some minor Vollmann from them in the odd years.

Now it sounds as though this was a reference to The Lucky Star (discussed in another thread), which leaves How You Are... where? Limbo, I guess.

Fingers crossed that it's down for 2021. Or if we're lucky, late 2020.

The 2021 novel is, I think, what was describe awhile back as a "gonzo thriller." Called "A Table for Fortune." Here's an article about it from 2016, which includes a draft excerpt.
