This is mentioned many times throughout the story. Does anybody know what it represents?

Bigollo | 104 comments Yes, that is a line from A.K. Tolstoy's poem Don Juan.

And Preobrazhensky actually sings it. It is a serenade from the opera Don Juan. P. I. Chaykovsky set music to the poem and made it an opera.

Bigollo | 104 comments Sharik told us the first part of the story.
Sharik’s gone...
Who is going to talk to us now? Whoever it is - the tone of voice is bound to change.

I had a painful time to read through the surgery.
To mess with his genitals and brain! What could me more outrageous than such violation?!

Jay | 5 comments grrr... I was almost through ch. 6 - traveling for work and I left my copy on the plane. :( Now I need to decide if I buy a new copy or try and find it at the library.

Indra Barrios Lasso (indrablasso) | 11 comments Bigollo, I had a hard time reading that part too...I think the idea of messing up with the genitals is just getting to the core of everything! You can't just take people's freedom away...it is like taking away my vagina! :)

Bigollo | 104 comments The book was written in 1924. But it was not published during his lifetime. (As many other of his works.)
No wonder. How would you react to such Medical Professor’s advice if you were a Bolshevik censorship official:

“…If you care about your digestion, my good advice is – do not talk about Bolshevism or medicine at dinner. And – heaven preserve! – don’t read any Soviet newspapers before dinner.”
“Hm…But there are no others.”
“That’s just it, don’t read any…”

Indra Barrios Lasso (indrablasso) | 11 comments I loved that part too! It happens to me all the time, that I don't even try to read the papers nowadays...I read them once a week and it is enough...always after breakfast! :)
