Part 1 I wonder how Denise managed to keep a positive attitude after the accident. She had to go through getting into an accident and having her son be missing for hours yet, she still tried to have a positive outlook on life, even if her life was total CHAOS. Since Denise was never really financially stable before her accident, after the bills started to pile up, she knew she was in trouble. She had the hospital bill which was $500 and she also had to sell her car. That got her $75 dollars but that was barely enough money for food which she mentions how they’re going to be eating a lot of cereal for the next few months. She also has to pay her electricity, phone, and water bill. Since she sold her car, she has to ask for rides places or ride her bike. She claims that within a few months she’ll have legs like steel! That showed that although she was in a rough patch, she still was trying to stay positive not only for herself, but for her son too. If I were to go through a similar situation that Denise went through, I would not have been able to stay as positive as she did. I would probably be down in the dumps everyday and have no energy to do anything. I would wonder why everything bad was happening to me and would not walk around with a smile on my face. I would just think of all these events as OMINOUS.However, Denise still manages to do that exact thing. I believe that she is setting a great example for her son. If she were to dwell on the unfortunate events, her son would notice, and might form that same bad habit when he grew older. By seeing her always have a positive attitude on life despite certain minor setbacks, it hopefully will help him always have a positive outlook on life. I believe she is the EPITOME of setting a great example for their kids. The other characters in the book also help Denise continue with her life by being there for her and letting her know that everything is going to be alright. When Denise was in the hospital, Judy, The firefighter who saved Denise’s son’s mom, visited her often and although at first Denise was hesitant and was not happy, Judy PACIFIED Denise and reminded her that her son was doing everything he could for look for her son. When Denise’s son ended up being rescued, that’s when her attitude on life changed.
Part 2 I first thought I would enjoy this book because it was written by Nicholas Sparks but then I realized that no matter who the book is by, I am not going to feel EXUBERANT while reading it. I don’t particularly like leisure reading so it is difficult for me to focus on what I am reading. I don’t set time aside for reading because I look for any other task to complete and put off reading for a later time. I usually enjoy all of Nicholas Spark’s books but I haven’t read any of his books in quite a while. I haven’t read for pleasure in a while, so I think that may have an impact on my interest in this book. I think what is holding me back from getting interested in this book is the journal entries I have to write about it. When I leisure read, I like to relax and read at my own pace. When I am given homework assignments on books I chose to pleasure read on, it makes it more stressful because I can not enjoy my book as much as I would like to. I feel like im just stressing out on what assignment I have to complete after I’m done reading. I do not like reading, so I feel like I will never be 100 percent into a book. I enjoy this book, but I’m not as interested in it as I would like to be. If I were to be reading this book for pleasure on my own, I think I would have finished the book already and might even be on to a second book. I have never been an AFICINADO of pleasure reading and am CANDID with my opinion of pleasure reading by saying I dislike it. When I was younger, I enjoyed reading but as I got older, I started looking at it as FRIVOLOUS activity. I dreaded it and never looked forward to “silent reading.” Especially when we had to write a summary of what we had just read. I also disliked doing book reports throughout my elementary and middle school years. Then as I progressed into high school, I was required to book test on every single book I read, which made me lose interest in the book because I would have to make sure I was completely focused and paid attention to every detail so I would get an A on the test.
