Wow, I'm feeling some character development/change here.
The beginning of the book, Violet is down to business and ordering Klaus like she's never done before. Although their situation is pretty dire, so there is good reason for her mood. But there are many times where the Baudelaires are in dangerous predicaments and she's less snappy. Probably Sunny's kidnapping pushed her over the edge (going back to our discussion in The Hostile Hospital where Colleen pointed out Violet's savior complex).
I'm glad that Klaus is looking to be more assertive now that he's older and is almost Violet's age. I'm sure he appreciates his sister's concern for him, but he doesn't appreciate being treated like a kid or purely as an encyclopedia, so I hope he stands up for himself more or finds other ways to contribute to their duo (for the time being).
I feel bad for Kevin though, he's embarrassed about being ambidextrous. Does he not realize how cool that is? But no, Esme goes and ties his right arm back so no one knows he's not just plain left-handed. Ugh. That still gets on my nerves every time Kevin is in a scene.
Who else groaned at seeing Carmelita again? I thought the cakesniffing was over... These Scouts are so weird... The whole not-changing-our-routine-because-that's-what-we've-always-done thing looks like it's going to be a critical part of a conflict later. Perhaps it'll be a larger theme that we see better now we're older than when we were kids.
I am so curious to know who the sweatered scout is though, I have a feeling it's one of the Quagmire triplets, and actually that thought just made me have a bit of a deja vu moment. Maybe he's Quigley? I'm excited to find out now!
