Elizabeth (lizbethhrosee) Just to let you guys know, some people haven't read the book yet and because this doesn't have a spoiler alert the notification ruins the ending for some people (like me). Not being rude but it might be wise to change the title of or delete this thread.

LiteraryMary95 I feel the same way. When I found out, I was crushed and in self denial. I was also angry too hahah I almost threw my book at the wall because of hearing Roth's ending. :/

message 8: by Marti (new)

Marti | 3 comments I was very upset we Tris died. She was like my best friend. I understand why Mrs. Roth had to do this, but still, I am heartbroken. Tris made a very brave & selfless decision. Instead of letting her brother take the fall she stood up because she knew she had a chance agenst the serum.(why she thought this I have no idea) I do feel bad for Tobias. But I don't see it like when she gave herself up to the erudite.(insurgent) It wasn't a suicide mission. It was a act of bravery & love. I loved that she told Caleb to tell Tobias that she didn't want to leave him. I thought it was necessary to show Four that it wasn't his fault & there wasn't a way he could have prevented it.

Completely agree with you!! the finale was so devastating but inspiring in a way. But the book in general was not as good as Divergent or Insurgent, in my humble opinion. The first one was a page turner, I couldn't stop reading it, this one, was more mellow, not as intense.

message 10: by LiteraryMary95 (new)

LiteraryMary95 I agree with both of you! I actually liked the ending better than I thought I would. Tris finally embraced what she was taught her whole life and acted upon it in an honorable way. The way she acted struck me because I've actually thought about this type of situation before Allegiant was published that if my brother or anyone I love did betray me I would still save his or her life rather than my own.

You should still definitely read it. It's still definitely worth it!

Sylvia Lockard (sylvialockard) | 1 comments I just finished Allegiant today... I seriously don't know what to do with myself. I cried. I did. I almost threw my book, except for it being new, I would have. I had to go read her blog to make myself see her reasoning so I could make myself not hate this series that brought so much into my life. I feel so empowered reading about Tris, she makes me confident in myself. I love her. This seriously broke my heart. I went to Barnes&Noble and stared around at books for over an hour, trying to find something to make myself lose this hurt. I really wish Roth hadn't done that....but this is a loss from a character that I didn't know I've been craving. I am a serious HP fanatic, and I loved those characters till their death so much that I cry at just jokes about them. And that's how I feel now with Tris. So I applaud Roth at being able to instill that much devotion and connection into a character as she's done with Tris. I just wish it was different :(

Elizabeth (lizbethhrosee) I don’t get why everyone hates the ending so much! It might be an unpopular opinion but I loved it. I thought it was very necessary and shows how grown up she has become. It shows that she still has a little bit of the factions in her because of her Abnegation background. This time she didn’t even want to die she just cared so much for everyone around her. I thought it was very appropriate. The only thing that bothered me was that I feel like Tobias wasn’t grieving correctly.

Katia (pandagirl100) | 2 comments I balled my eyes out! Its not fair how could veronica do this to us! We wanted a good ending! Can you believe the way four acted! It was like he didn't care about the fact that tris was gone!!!!!! It didn't have much crying at all. Its a big let down.. Cus after i read i ran downstair and was all like WHY ! WHY ! WHY veronica ! WHY!

message 19: by LiteraryMary95 (new)

LiteraryMary95 Four did care. He just became numb and shocked, and he had no clue what to do. It was like losing a piece of himself forever.

message 20: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie | 1 comments If Veronica planned for Tris to die, she should have had something for Tobias, like a piece of her. I thought it would have been amazing if Tris had a baby and then Tobias would at least a huge part of Tris. Veronica thought that by killing Tris it would show her true strength and bravery, and that she truly knows the meaning of sacrifice. I also thought Tris's death was just, dum! Tris survived the peace serum and then bam she gets shot.

message 21: by Livvy (new)

Livvy (livvylu) | 49 comments That ending was depressing. You've been rooting for this couple for so long and you finally think they're going to be okay, and then-Wham! Tris dies. I get why, and really it was smart and made total sense (and if I was the author I probably would have done the same thing) but...God, it was so depressing. I cried for who knows how long, and I cried even more when we were hearing from Tobias about how he was excited to go back to Tris, and how they would finally be happy.
That was just awful.

ℂᖺαᖇᒪἷ℮ ⊰1017 &Tardis⊱ (charlie_awesome) | 35 comments I didn't really like Allegiant. The ending seemed to be included for shock factor.

Also if I read another YA book about an incredibly self-sacrificial character I'm going to flip a table.

message 23: by LiteraryMary95 (new)

LiteraryMary95 Reading Allegiant was like Roth ripping your heart out and stabbing it several times and then returning it back all distorted and leaves you angry for a couple days haha

I don't think there's any "correct" way to grieve... I think everyone deals with pain differently, and Tobias was a really unique character, really hard to read. He felt lost at first without Tris, and he tried to resolve his pain by resetting his memory. It took him two years to realize that pain is okay to feel because the people around you help you to get through it. Anyway I don't think he dealt with it in a strange way, actually I thought he dealt with it in a very real way, and a very mature way.

Anyone here under 11 years old?
I read the Divergent series in 6th grade. (I still am now.)
I get all the plots, and after reading Allegiant...
I'm permanently depressed about the fact.

Recommend reading Renegades by Marissa Meyer
