How to get Help > Where do we turn?

We've discussed illnesses, neurology, books, but I don't think we've addressed where we can go to either get help for ourselves, or others. What do we do when we have a loved one who suffers from a mental illness? How do we help them? How can we get help for ourselves?

So for this thread, let's put our collective knowledge and experience together to try to guide others toward that much needed help!

I know a lady who is struggling with bipolar disorder. She was recently released for the second time this year from the psychiatric unit of a nearby hospital.

Is anyone familiar with NAMI? The National Alliance on Mental Illness? They have chapters across the United States.
