The book I choose for pleasure reading was Mass Effect Revelations by Drew Karpynshyn, the book is about two very opposite soldiers who are forced to work together and both don’t like the other Saren underestimates Anderson for being human thought that human instinct is shown to save human a lot. Right from the start we see Anderson perform much better than expected of by the mercenaries who fell to him when he went to check the base at Sidon they underestimated the humans and thought they could win. Furthermore human instinct is also shown when Sanders kills the fake c-sec officer who would’ve killed her or turned her in to the bad guys. Human instinct in Anderson is to do the right thing which Saren sees as being weak since he despises humans since his kind the turians were once at war with them both were once ALIENs to the other. This causes Saren to underestimate Anderson and believe him to be weak for being human. We see that Anderson is the good guy in this since he follows rules and does everything he can to avoid casualties while Saren is the opposite he likes to get the job done at anyone’s expense be it women or child. Even the Human politicians are underestimated by the council which is a galactic government with three leaders of the strongest species in their universe. When they were about to put serious punishments to humanity for researching AIs they were THWARTed by Goyle who told them no for she knew they saw them as a threat and noticed that they were a potential match for their forces and wouldn’t get out without a lot of losses if they were to fight. Yet again she is underestimated when she fights tooth and nail to get them to compromise with her requests and in the end gets what she wants. Throughout much of the book Skarr a krogan mercenary underestimates humans twice he is stopped by Anderson when he tries to kill Grissom at his apartment and again by Sanders when he is about to get Anderson in a corner and kill him. Humans even though they are a young and growing race in the Mass Effect universe are always greatly underestimated by other species in the universe and many times it just adds to our accomplishment since our enemies underestimate us and lose. In the end Saren goes to LUDICROUS methods to get Edan to come out since he put many people’s lives in danger and didn’t second think it since he cared not for the casualties from the outcome. He even put Anderson and Sanders in danger and believed they would die but to his surprise he underestimated them and they actually made the brutal escape out of the scorching hot embers and toxin smoke that engulfed the workers camp where children and woman died a slow painful death from being choked by the burning smoke and ash he was shocked to see them coming up to the vehicle as he is about to leave he couldn’t grasp that the human instinct to live was very strong and kept them going even when all hope seemed lost it kept them going for it had no desire to die then and there.
