This thread is just for general communication. If something doesn't fit into the other threads or you just want to chat, this is the place.

Cher 'N Books (cher_n_books) If I could have just one little tiny request/wish granted, it would be that this remains the sole book club in the entire goodreads group universe that does not add numerous discussion threads for "games" such as "take the previous entry and change one word to create a new book title etc..." They really junk up the email digests. Being contrarian to this uber popular fad will ensure that International Reads will be the coolest group around, and face it, you know you want to be the coolest group around. Should I be outvoted on this issue, no big deal. But seriously...stay cool. ;) Please and thank you.

Nicole (nicolepo) Suggestion. One of the other book clubs I participate in on goodreads (Sword and Laser) has a listopia associated with the book club. I was think that might be a good thing to do here as well because it would allow everybody to suggest books by adding them to the listopia and it would also give people looking for more diverse reads a nice resource. I have no idea how much work it is to set up a listopia so I'll leave it up to the mods if this is something you'd like to include.

I concur with Cher. I prefer when the groups stick to the topic of picking & discussing books. There are plenty of other places for games like that if people are interested in them and I can't imagine too many people being distraught over us not having that.

Here here! Haha. I agree Cher - plus it makes it easier for me to have less threads, haha.

Could you possibly send me a link to the book club so I can see what you mean? Thank you :)

Sure. The book club is here: https://www.goodreads.com/group/show/...

The Listopias are here: https://www.goodreads.com/list/show/2...

and here: https://www.goodreads.com/list/show/2...

They used to be linked to on the side bar of the book club main page, but I couldn't see them when I was looking just now. Anyway, they're good resources and a good way to see what other people in the book club like and would recommend.

Cool, thanks - I shall look into them :) If not I guess I could make a book shelf with everyone's recommendations in - at least that way there's one location with all of them together :)

Chloe (abookeveryotherday) | 4 comments Ugh. I just want to say sorry guys if I haven't been participating on the general discussions so far. Life events have occurred (isn't it weird that happens?), however I hope to be more engaged in the coming weeks.

I am making my way through Pale Fire, although it is hard to say how far I am into it since it isn't really linear, which is what makes it awesome. But from what I have read on the back of The Slynx, I can already see some similarities between it and Pale Fire, and I hope once I start reading The Slynx that the comparison totally makes sense. Nabokov can write so beautifully while simultaneously being so hilarious. I have high hopes for The Slynx.

Andi M. Same here, Chloe. Work exploded in my face right about the time this group took off. Ack! I'm reading! Will be discussing more soon!

message 11: by Brooke (new)

Brooke (brookelee) Me too, guys! I thought I would have so much reading time on this work trip but everyone is constantly wanting to go out and socialize. I promise to start reading on the plane ride home!!

Elli (The Bibliophile) (thebibliophilebooks) | 24 comments AH same!! I started this new job at the wrong time -.- I'm definitely going to participate more once I finish reading the book!

message 13: by Rincey (new)

Rincey (rinceya) Don't worry, everyone! No need for everyone to read it all at once and quickly. We have the whole month to read the book, although I understand wanting to join into the conversation :) [P.S. I finally got my copy and will be jumping in today]

message 14: by Kay (new)

Kay There hasn't been any activity in this group for months now. Are we going to have a monthly read again or is this group over?

Mrs. Moore | 3 comments 'International Novels in English for Book Club' is the name of a list I started for suggestions of novelists who neither live or originate in the USA. Please feel free to add books, especially ones that a women's book club would enjoy that Americans may not have heard about...
