"Human transfiguration," Jayfox began, slamming his book down onto the desk. Several students jolted up. One of the last classes of the day, transfiguration was by no stretch the most eventful class for Cecil. It had always come more easily to him than most, which did not help his attention span during class.
"One of the most difficult and most dangerous forms of transifiguration. I trust all of you have read the chapter in your textbooks, but in case you need a bit of reminder, let us review..."
Cecil resisted the urge to groan. Boredom tugged at his eyelids. He rested his head on his hand.

Bruce hated review days. All they did was sit and listen to something Jayfox talking about something he'd explained before. It was a terrible kind of déjà vu. This way, though, at least he could get a nap in while the professor was busy lecturing in a voice that rang like a lullaby. It was a gift, thought Bruce, as he sprawled forward on the table.
Moving his chin so that the side of his head lay against the smooth wood, Bruce glanced up at his friend. Cecil showed similar signs of chronic boredom.
"Go on without me," he whispered, feigning distress as he sucked in a breath.

He had been close to falling asleep before his friend pulled him from his reverie. A small smile tugged at the corner of his mouth before dissolving into a frown as he feigned distress. Cecil pushed himself upright.
"I can't, Bruce," he whispered. "How can I? After all we've been through."

"You have to save yourself." His tone was firm, his mouth set in a sure but solemn line. His eyes laughing. "It's too late for me - but you..."
Bruce's gaze moved across the room, unfocusing so that his look was wistful, almost pensive. "You've got so much potential. So much life - go get yourself a pretty young thing and settle down. Start a family. Hell, get a dog. I don't know."
"But do it for me."
The corner of his mouth curled slightly after the dramatic monologue as he glanced back at Cecil.

Cecil stifled his laughter, pursing his lips. He glanced up at the rest of the class. A few annoyed stares were turned their way, and Jayfox seemed to have begun to notice them.
"Oi, if you are going to die on me, keep it down. Jayfox is giving us the eye."
