Patrick (patrickreadsbooks) My boss made an anti-gay comment the other day and I didn't say anything against it because he's my boss. I just couldn't. I'm mad at the situation and I'm mad at myself for not being brave enough :-/

Boyd (boydwalker) | 2304 comments Don't be mad that you didn't waste your time on a homophobic boss. There are so many creeps who are antigay that you would have to spend all your time and energy putting them in their place and it's not worth the hassle. Just be yourself and know that we care about you and respect you.

Hugs, Boyd

message 3: by Mike (new)

Mike | 483 comments I have to agree with Boyd not to beat yourself up over the ignorant actions of your boss. This post alone is a positive counter-action. There are... (I can't remember if group rules prevent me from swearing)... jerks everywhere, and like Boyd said, they are not all worthy of your time. Take care and keep in mind we all find ourselves in this situation at times. So don't feel like you're the Lone Ranger.

Roger Kean | 17278 comments Look on the bright side, Patrick, there may be a lot of creeps about, but there are a hell of lot less than used to be the case :)

Lori S. (fuzzipueo) | 2809 comments I agree, he's not worth the effort and you have a safe place to blow up about it here!

And, I figure what goes around will eventually come around.

While taking classes I have had two professors (out of a couple dozen?) who have made homophobic comments. Many have made heterosexist comments, but I tend to forgive those as they are just ill-informed. In the case of the homophobic comments I was, in both cases, so surprise that I did not say anything at the time. When such comments come of superiors and people in authority the comments are that much more damaging and cruel. I too wish I had said something at the time. I should have, but I got my chance later when I noted those comments in the class and instructor evaluations at the end of the semester.

Grrrrr…I hate that phrase. Using the word gay to mean stupid makes me mad and sad.

D.J. (davorjm) | 6 comments Don't be too mad. Get nasty. I lost two temp jobs in my early 20s because I am gay. They don't have to give you a reason. Now, I find myself unemployed again because I had an epileptic seizure at work. They all stood there taking pics and videos with their phones. Now they will have to deal with charges of discrimination, and also criminal negligence for not calling an ambulance.

That's a good reason to be mad D.J. I'm sorry you encountered such cruel and unfeeling people. If I could I give you a big hug I would instead I give my best wishes that you never have to endure such evil treatment again.

I'm glad you decided to join the Complaint Department. I'm sure you will find much empathy and friends here.

Here is a virtual [hug] —Preston

That's terrible, D.J. It makes me despair of humanity to hear of things like that. I'd like to think that nothing so unfeeling, callous, could happen here (UK), but I know it can be the same anywhere. So it's always happy-making to hear of times when people do good things and are kind. I know a boy at school who fell into a grand mal seizure due to the pressure of the exam we were all taking. Inevitably, ]for a few seconds the other boys in the large room looked over and thought he was making inappropriate fun, but one or two knew his "secret." In seconds half the room was there on the floor, two boys holding him, rolled onto his side so he wouldn't choke (we were zoology students…) I'm quite sure, even if such things had existed at the time (and they would never have been allowed in an exam anyway), no one would have ever thought of taking pictures.

My only other experience of such a situation was more personal in as much as the guy, Mike, who suffered from epilepsy worked as an employee in the company I owned. His job was photographing computer game screens (in the days before automatic capture), and he had a seizure in the cramped room we used for the purpose. I was called by a panicked assistant and dealt with Mike as best I knew, but within minutes most of the rest of our small (20+ employees) were gathered outside the room, an ambulance called—which turned out to be unnecessary, but a doctor showed up soon after—and others making tea, wringing hands and being generally sympathetic, worried, concerned, happy to hear Mike starting to come round and speak again.

When you have suffered abuse at the hands of others, it's hard to look kindly on your fellow human beings, but I've always found it best to try to do so, for oneself, not for them.

I join in Preston's virtual [hug] — Roger

Hug from behind

Welcome to the Complaint Department, DJ. I'm sorry to hear of your unfun and the unkind people who took those photos. We, as a society, have lost a lot of decency in recent decades and common sense has obviously flown out the window (or, more likely, has gotten flushed down the toilet). Sigh.

I hope you find your stay here in the Complaint Department both enjoyable and welcoming. Take care.

Hey Michael, take a deep breath and let it out slowly. The nice thing about phones/computers is that they have off switches. If you need to pull back, take a break from all the drama, there's no reason why you can't turn the phone/computer off for a while.

Hope things settle for you soon.

message 29: by Victor (new)

Victor | 1 comments 20 years ago I would often come across a reading and find more hateful responses (to put it lightly). After reading most comments I would walk away with a heavy heart knowing there where such ugly people out there.

Wow! Carumba! AH! : I read this guys concern and began to comment and give him some reassurance when I started reading all these very supportive, positive and humanistic responses.

I am finally seeing progression in society which gives me so much hope for mankind in knowing that there are people out there who do have spirit and true love. Who are worth listening to because they project so much more than there words but there unseen concern and compassion and understanding the whole as the sum.

I applaud all of you!

Bravo!!!

Jamie | 11 comments I'm mad because people keep on judging whenever I read MM books. It doesn't matter if I'm a girl or anything else. I LOVE MM ROMANCE NOVELS!!!

Preston | 20148 comments Jamie wrote: "I'm mad because people keep on judging whenever I read MM books. It doesn't matter if I'm a girl or anything else. I LOVE MM ROMANCE NOVELS!!!"

You won't get any judging here in the Complaint Department when reading M/M Romance novels or Gay love stories. Most all the men here are gay and most all the women are M/M Romance readers or writers. Most all of male members are readers/writers of gay romances too.

The author who has been with us the longest is Roger (Roger Kean) who is the author of A Life Apart and Gregory's Story among other books. Both of his books I named were Book of the Month selections in the M/M Romance group.

The most recent author too join is Alexa Land who is the author of the Firsts and Forever series whose latest book Skye Blue will be released August 1st. She was author of the month last month in the M/M Romance group.

message 32: by Roger (new)

Roger Kean | 17278 comments But Alexa cheats. She writes perfect novels in the same time it takes me to write a chapter, which I say isn't fair… so I suppose I should have posted this one in the main Complaint Thread. :-)
