Grrrr! I had my chance to read this immediately after reading The Shining and didn't. Why? Because I was a scardey-cat. I've requested it from the library again, but there are still three people ahead of me on the hold list. It's a very popular book, so I'm surprised there's no discussion around it yet. Anyone reading this?
I'm glad I re-read The Shining before this. You wouldn't necessarily have to but there are some pretty cool moments that relate back to the original.
I read The Shining last month, and I think that's what is contributing to my freaking out already. I'm still recovering from Room 217, and the references are creeeeeeepy.
I absolutely adored this book. Agree that it's not as scary, but I enjoyed the character development so much that it didn't bother me. I have a relative currently in recovery, so the 12 step discussions really resonated with me, especially with Uncle Stevie's trademark sardonic twist on them. I hope Danny and Abra resurface some time...
I'm still only about half way through the book at this point. It has more of a "thriller" effect as opposed to "horror" - but I agree the story is great, and I'm loving the interactions between Danny and Abra too.
Oh, wow! King did a fantastic job reopening this old storyline, didn't he?!? Really, really enjoyable! My Review
