Welcome everyone to the group "Books Similar to Breaking Bad, Scandal, and Other Popular TV Shows. I am the founder of the group and author of the books A Negotiation of Wounds and A Dangerous Low, Michael Stephenson. You can check my page here: Michael Stephenson .

This is the Welcome folder. If you would like to join this group or are curious about what we do here, I invited any and all first timers to come Here to introduce yourself. Just leave your name, a little interesting fact about you, a link to your Goodreads page if you are an author, and a mention of what TV shows and books you enjoy.

Remember this is a group strictly for those people who happen to love both books and TV, and are looking for good books that can give them the same feeling as their beloved shows. Feel free to browse through the various discussion boards and add your two cents in on the gem of a book you found that reminded you of XX show and why. If you don't see a popular show and would like to add a discussion about it, feel free to do so.

Also, I advise you to read through the Rules and the FAQ before diving into the board. We are all here to have fun and enjoy talking about great books and TV which is made easier by everyone knowing the standards.

Feel free to drop by the Not-So-Popular Shows folder also to see if any of your favorite guilty pleasures that few people know about are listed over there and what books might relate to them.

P.S. This is my first group, so I apologize if it is a little hectic and un-organized. Between this, trying to continue to write my own books, promoting my own books, trying to connect with fans, and keeping up with a little bit of TV, it can get a little flustering, but I will be trying as best I can to see this thing succeed. Happy reading and, in this case, happy watching also.

Welcome Bec. So, we know you like books but what are some of your favorite shows?

message 4: by Bec (new)

Bec | 6 comments Well they would have to be sleepy hollow, supernatural, being human, bones and many more that I like as well. What about u?

I like just about anything with a good story, so long as it can keep my attention. I will admit that I sometimes watch reality shows as they let my brain go dead for a while, but I also get into plenty of other shows. I am watching plenty of Sleepy Hollow (though I find that the producers seem to be sneaking in a love thing between the two main characters and I find it to be far too soon for that, especially since Ichabod is still married). I also enjoy the show Grimm.

message 6: by Bec (new)

Bec | 6 comments I agree I though it's too soon for the two main characters to get together.
Wow Grimm I haven't seen that what's it about if u don't mind me asking:)

I'm shocked you've never heard of Grimm. It is actually a highly rated show on NBC, though NBC is still NBC so... but anyways, Grimm is about this detective who discovers he is a modern-day descendant of the Brothers Grimm, the same men who collected all the fairytales. Well, apparently all the fairytales were real: Red Riding Hood, Goldie Locks and the Three Bears, Hansel and Gretel, etc. The monsters from those stories (witches, werewolves) hide in plain sight as they do evil to normal humans. It is his job to identify them and stomp them out. I mentioned it because when I saw Sleepy Hollow, I was reminded of Grimm.

message 8: by Bec (new)

Bec | 6 comments Thank I will have to watch it now then. I have heard of the brothers Grimm but didn't know there was a tv show that's amazing :)

Hey, my names Katharine I watch pretty much anything really. I just finished watching The Walking Dead yesterday and today I'm working on watching American Horror Story's second season that finally hit Netflix. haha I normally don't catch shows while they're on tv but just end up watching them on Netflix. I used to watch Grimm but stopped after the first season because I missed too many episodes of the second.

If you want to join another Horror group stop on by the group called For the Love of Horror. Anyone and everyone is welcome. :)

Welcome Katharine and Sandra. As the moderator, let me first apologize as I have been quite busy writing and haven't had time to comment very much. I am hard at work on my next novel and a short story so I am trying to keep up with my reading, writing, and TV watching all at once which is a heck of a task. Anyways, I look forward to talking books and TV with you all.
Katharine, I love American Horror Story. Actually I was thinking about starting a folder for each season seeing as how each season is a different theme and thusly can have completely different books. And I watch Grimm too. Yeah, the second season did get crazy so I recommend trying to catch that on Netflix if and when it comes out.
Sandra, what kind of TV do you like and what are some of your favorite shows out now?

It is up now Katharine, although it is only for the first season. It is in the folder marked AHS: Season One. I shortened the title because I didn't know if it would all fit. I will put up the one for the second and third seasons by the New Year. Always remember to click the more discussions button if you don't see your show's folder as it might already be created.

Welcome Joyce. It is great to have you as part of the group. As you can see (hopefully), we have a lot of shows that fit into the things you enjoy watching. Make sure you check out the rules and read through some of the things on how shows are picked. Also, we would love to have book recommendations from you that fit into the proper show folders. But most of all, we want you to have fun and stay active. Thanks for joining.

Sidney Prescott (horrorbound) Hello, I'm Charlotte!

My favorite show of all time is Supernatural, close second is Star Trek. I also love Doctor Who, American Horror Story, Wallander, Sherlock, Downton Abbey, Community, Parks and Rec, and Criminal Minds. Just to name a few.
There's so many good shows out there I can't even handle it. But those are the ones I constantly watch and rewatch.

So hello everyone ^.^

Welcome, Charlotte.

So you like Downton Abbey? I have not seen that show yet but I want to catch it sometime on DVD if I can. Check out the folders for it, Doctor Who and American Horror Story. And hey, if you think that any of those other shows should be on here, you can always petition for them in the Popular Democracy topic or start a thread on them in the Not-so-popular books and shows folder.

K4tie (nonzombieleader) | 1 comments Hi all! My name is Katie. I like shows that deal with things I'm terrified of in real life because I can explore my fears safely. Safety is key :)

For example: AHS, Criminal Minds, Bones, Hemlock Grove, Bates Motel, Dexter, SOA. The bloodier, rougher, sexier, and mentally disturbing the better.

I also enjoy shows about things I would not otherwise know much about.

For example: Weeds, Breaking Bad, Prison Break, anything about Alaska, survival shows, and creative cooking shows.

I know about weed, I'm from Colorado, but this is a whole other side of weed I can enjoy safely. I don't want to get as close to meth physically, ever, like in breaking bad and that show is addicting (lol) in a safe way. Prison, yep don't want to go or force my way in to break out. But I sure did watch every episode. Alaska is a dream of mine I hope to at least visit some day. Some shows make me cry with longing... Uh I probably should not admit that, but whatever. Creative cooking shows are fun for me because I love to cook and I love to eat. I can imagine the flavor of the food being made and think of improvements. I don't cook as much as I should, but it doesn't mean I can't love seeing it be done and hearing about it. Especially exotic dishes from other cultures.

Welcome, Katie. Hope to see more of you. There is a Dexter folder where you can list any books you think are similar to the show. Again, read the Group Rules just to the right of the comment box when typing. You can start another topic in that folder if you like. Just would like the rules followed for tidiness.
I love cooking also and I have a blog where I will be sharing a few food recipes every now and then. My first will be on Thursday, a Philly Cheesesteak Soup.
Welcome and good to have you.

Welcome, Brad. So, look around, invite your friends and tell us a little about yourself. What kind of TV do you like and what kind of books do you read? Oh, and checkout the latest group post entitled New Season to tell us what new shows and books you are looking forward to reading in the next few months.

message 25: by Bradley (new)

Bradley (arctunn) | 2 comments I think life is too short, so I generally IMDB the crap out of everything and only watch shows that stay above a 9.0 unless they're SF, and then it usually never dips below 8.5. :)

Of course, that doesn't say WHAT I watch.

Still loving Doctor Who, Marvel/DC universes, Mr. Robot, Banshee, Penny Dreadful, Suits, SoI&F, Walking Dead, and some of the highest rated anime out there, on occasion.

The one I'd most like to talk about is Mr. Robot because it kicks ass, and of course its riffs on Fight Club. (I'm stretching this because I love the book as much as the movie.) ;)

Welcome. A Mr. Robot folder will be up sometime within the next week. I never caught that show but I heard it was good.
