An incredible memoir about friendship

I think we've all had a friend like this. The person who knows you better than you know yourself. They are an indelible part of your family and your life.
My favorite comment so far was: "Grasshoppers and hares find the ants and the tortoises. They need us to survive, but we need them as well. They are the ones that bring the truth and beauty to the party."
I am an ant.

I think I'd enjoy this more if I wasn't a shrink. I keep thinking histrionic personality meets dependent!

I had the privilege of seeing Anne Patchett earlier this year when she visited my city to talk about her latest novel, State of Wonder , which I also have read. At first I didn't think I'd like Truth and Beauty because I was afraid it would be too morbid. But it wasn't at all. I admire Patchett's honesty and her ability to be a true friend to Lucy.
