K.L. Turner | 63 comments Boy's Life was very well written. If you like Horror, Robert R. McCammon has several wonderful books. I should also point out that Boy's Life is not a horror novel, but it is a very very good read.

Happy reading
K.L.

I also read this book and it was great, then I made the mistake of watching the movie and thought is was terrible!

Did you think the movie was terrible, or did watching the movie make you change your opinion about the book?

I thought the movie was bad, I still think the book was great.

Kenneth Goldman (goldman) | 4 comments At the risk of sounding like an ego maniac, my novel OF A FEATHER has many times been compared to Stephen King's works, in both plot and style.(See Goodreads reviews and those on Amazon.com for that.) While it's flattering to be compared to the master, I'm not sure I'm 100% comfortable with the comparison because I want my style to be unique. I would love honest comments from anyone who has read OF A FEATHER.

Matt Mullins | 24 comments I just finished 20th Century Ghosts by Joe Hill and really enjoyed it. I will definitely read more of his books.

message 11: by Marc (new)

Marc | 5 comments Patrick Senécal, is a great horror writer, but some of his best works like 5150 rue des ormesandLes Sept Jours du talion,to my knowledge, are only available in French. Which is quite unfortunate because King fans would love his work. But for those who can, he is definitely worth reading.

I think the movies never compare to the book. The book is almost always better than the movie. The Road was a great book.

Kandice | 4388 comments I don't think the book is better than the movie in every case, but in the case of The Road that couldn't have been more true. I think some of that is because there is almost no dialogue which works fine on the page but makes for looong silent stretches in a movie and also because it was so horrific that showing us is never going to live up to the horror your mind can conjure up. It was a more powerful story in my imagination than the directors.

Keyser Soze (truman19) A Simple Plan, by Scott Smith, was quite good. As was The Ruins.

Sara the Librarian (museoffire) I'd like to make a case for The Exorcist being hand over fist better as a film than as a book. I recently re-read the book (apparently I felt I deserved punishment for something) and was struck by how much it actually reads like a screenplay or at least a treatment. Its almost entirely dialogue and has absolutely none of the dread and tense atmosphere hanging over it that movie was totally rife with. Honestly I think its an outright terrible book.

GracieKat | 67 comments Vampire$ was definitely a better movie in my opinion. The book lacked a lot of style. And James Woods. Most of the time the book is better but there are a few (very few) cases where the movie surpasses the book.

Carnacki, the Ghost Finder is really good as well as the pastiche book No. 472 Cheyne Walk: Carnacki, the Untold Stories

I also like the books by H.R. Wakefield

I found this book to be very bloated full of unnecessary side plots that served no purpose other than making the book much longer than it needed to be. I got bored and gave up on it many years ago when trying to read it and only finished it recently this year because I drive for work and was doing it by audio book (I smash through a lot of books I don't necessarily enjoy this way as I frequently listen to as many as 40-50 books a year).
