I'm an Irish history buff with an insatiable appetite for reading & discussion. Lovely home page for the Goodreads Ireland club. So glad you're here.

Great to have you here, S. We have plenty of Irish ex-pats and Irish descendants who have questions about Irish history, so I have a feeling your knowledge of Irish history will be appreciated.
I look forward to chatting with you in the future. :)

Hello, I'm new here. This was the only thread that didn't appear to be name-specific and as I have no clue how to set up a thread, nor do I have a hankering after seeing my name 'in lights'
OK, I was cut off in my prime, though this is not atypical for me. Now I must cut my wallflower act and have my name in lights, though perhaps these will be more the lights-with-the-dimmer version.Well, after all that rambling, "Hello!" This is a wonderful idea for a group! Thank you to the creators. Ach-hoooom, she clears throat. My name is Hilary (Burns McKee) McCarthy. I'm 57; 58 in April. I have 4 grown children; well when I say 'grown' that is very much a technicality. They are aged from 27 down to 19. Although reading makes me happy, sometimes overwhelmingly happy, I have a chronic spinal illness which worsened July 2015. I was unable to read for months. Now I am a slow reader and still lack in concentration, but I am thankful to report (without any evidence base) that these side-effects from the illness will eventually be ex-side effects just as I shall be an ex-parrot. :-p
I am glad to be here ...
Hi Hilary - welcome to the board. Sorry about your illness - that sounds very painful, so I hope you can get some relief from it be finding a great book that will take your mind off it. You'll get plenty of recommendations here. Look forward to inter-acting more with you x
