Just had to post this from The Thought Gang. "I don't understand why people insist on carrying on the pretence that there are four seasons in this land. What we get is four types of winter, all so rainy they're hard to distinguish one from another" Only up to page 7 but it is very funny so far.
I'm a little way in to the Collector Collector and am really enjoying it. It's narrated by an ancient bowl full of anecdotes of the many bizarre events it has observed and participated in over the centuries.
The occurrences it is witnessing in it's current residence are pretty odd as well.

The Thought Gang is becoming a bit tedious! It's very clever and vey funny and I enjoyed it immensely at first but it just seems to have gone on too long - and I'm only half way through. It might be better if I could sit down and concentrate on it but it's only getting fragments of my time, when I'm already tired, so I might not be concentrating on it enough. I'll plough on and hope it picks up a bit.
I'm really enjoying The Collector Collector; I'm intrigued by the modern day story, and the tales of times past are amusing - weird, but amusing

No! But I can't wait - I've just got to the flat being "burgled" for the 2nd time
I have just finished The Thought Gang and found it an entertaining and unusual book. The only book I've read that comes close to its strangeness was the ill fated and abandoned Mason and Dixon.Surreal and funny, a lazy Cambidge University philosopher and a petty, physically disabled thief travel France robbing banks and making total fools of the police along the way. Full of names I wasn't familiar with and words beginning with Z, some of which I suspect are made up or have never seen the light of day for eons, I still found it a thoroughly good read.
I did hit a spell in the middle where it seemed to pall but I suspect it is a book you have to be in the mood for, and I wasn't at that point. However, at the moment I am fighting the urge to re-read it immediately and look up some of the references I skimmed over because I suspect Ii may have missed something!
Just finished The Collector Collector and I loved it. Reading it is rather like being at a party and having Russell Brand (or some one you find less irritating if he's not your cup of tea) telling you a string of the most bizarre and funny anecdotes you've ever heard (many involving frozen iguanas).
I really liked Rosa despite the (view spoiler)

At this moment more than one interlocution will be about frozen iguanas :)Any party that Russell Brand was attending probably wouldn't be my sort of party - he is most definitely not my cup of tea - but I know what you mean, the book is more than a little surreal, it would take a very strange mind to come up with the stories! Agree about Rosa too.
I have Voyage to the End of the Room to read, but may also get hold of The Thought Gang
Just finished Good To Be God, was quite good actually, funny in places about a really unlucky bloke who decides to move to Miami and convince people he is the supreme being in an attempt to finally make it.
