For our January theme, we are looking to classic sci-fi!

The reference list for nominations will be the following Sci-fi Classics list from Worlds without end.

I just have alove/hate thing for these lists...I just want to devour them, and everytime I see one I add too many more books to my to read list!

Difficult choice. I nominate The Female Man

While the list is pretty inclusive, they leave off some very good names in SF, such as Andre Norton...

Pavane by Keith Roberts is my nomination, but there are a slew of goodies on this list!

Some list, I have probably read half of them.
So I choose #18 - Mission of Gravity by Hal Clement

I nominate #23 To Your Scattered Bodies Go (1971) by Philip José Farmer.

Lots of great books to chose from here, though my personal list would not include anything by Bradbury, Asimov, or museum pieces like Before the Golden Age: A Science Fiction Anthology of the 1930s.

Goji-we discussed the Farmer book in August of 2012.....see if there is another you like!

I am torn between three I want to read...Blood Music, A Clockwork Orange, and Fahrenheit 451......I need to make up my mind!
There are a bunch here I'd be happy to read though...

How about reading a sequel, The Fall of Hyperion? I find the book to be much better than the first book, the two is suppose to make up Hyperion Cantos. I also find it funny that the website did not have the first book on the list.

Ah, since the Farmer book was already discussed I nominate No Enemy but Time by Michael Bishop.

Blood Music is on my to-read list as well. I've really enjoyed other Greg bear books Eon and Darwin's Radio.

Kevin, I'm in the middle of Hyperion and will pick up The Fall of Hyperion at the post office tomorrow so I'll read that one pretty soon anyway. I'd think reading just the sequel wouldn't be such a good idea, or do you reckon it would work as a standalone novel without having to read the first one?

I recommend reading the first book first since the two books were suppose to be one book.

Yeah, "blood music" was on my list to read also. But so is Hal Clemens, Gene Wolf, Robert Silverberg....
