Garrett (garrettgoodreads) In a glittering underwater world, nothing is as it seems...

For the past twelve months since her parents’ death, seventeen-year-old Miranda Sun has harboured a dark secret — a secret that has strained the close relationship she once shared with her older sister, Lauren. In an effort to repair this broken bond, Miranda’s grandparents whisk the siblings away on a secluded beach holiday. Except before Miranda gets a chance to confess her life-changing secret, she’s dragged underwater by a mysterious stranger while taking a midnight swim.

Awakening days later, Miranda discovers that she’s being held captive in a glittering underwater city by an arrogant young man named Marko...the King of this underwater civilisation.

Nineteen-year-old Marko intends to marry Miranda in order to keep his crown from falling into the sinister clutches of his half-brother, Damir. There’s only one problem. Miranda is desperate to return home to right things with her sister and she wants nothing to do with Marko. Trying to secure her freedom, Miranda quickly forms an alliance with Robbie — Marko’s personal guard. However, she soon discovers that even underwater, people are hiding dangerous secrets...

Randi (The Artist Formerly known as Guitar Chick) (guitarchick) One qualm (And it's only because it's my name): Why must we always reference the Tempest and name every heroine within a fifty mile radius of the shoreline Miranda? Otherwise, I'm interested.

Garrett (garrettgoodreads) What would be interesting is if a character in a mermaid novel was named something that meant "air" or "earth." If a mermaid wanting to be human was named something like that, it would further point out how out of place she feels in the ocean. A human girl named something like that is swept into an undersea world, and it further shows how different this world is to her. Or the love interest's name, can further point out how the mermaid wants to be oart of the "earth."
Names really are everything, people.

Randi (The Artist Formerly known as Guitar Chick) (guitarchick) I actually did that with the Dancing Barefoot novels I worked on for a very long time (I'm on the edge of scrapping them at this point. I found a better place for elements of the story and how to better the characters).
The last name of the protaganist was Ayres, which I just secretly laughed at all the time. The father in the family was human so I thought it would be pretty cool.

I wondered what happened with those books. One was called Bottle it Up, right?
I know what you mean, though. The books i'm working on aren't mermaid-related, so that's why I haven't mentioned them on here before, but I originally had the idea in my head about a year ago, and for the past few months the idea has returned a la characters and all, and I'm reworking the story and characters to better them from what I originally had.

Randi (The Artist Formerly known as Guitar Chick) (guitarchick) Ahahha, yeah, they were all song titles because...well, because.
Yeah, I'm really debating what to do with them at this point, because there were a lot of people around goodreads and other places that really seemed to like them, but I haven't seen them in a while, and I've got a better idea of a story to do with the basic idea of the characters in the ones already out there. They were a really great way to keep writing in middle school, but I feel like they're a little too juvenile and not at all what I wanted now that I'm older.

Garrett (garrettgoodreads) Ha, that's how I am. I look back at past writing and have to repress a cringe. I look past main characters and I'm like, "They're so annoying, was I that annoying at at age?"
It's why i'm taking all three of my ideas slow. I have 1) my current story, 2) my mermaid idea, and then 3) which I call my "heart" story, which is the story that's closest to me and I've been doing for a couple of years now. It's the one that I have to have be absolutely perfect, and I don't think I've actually told anyone about it. But it's HUGE. The outline alone was exhausting lol.
Aaand just like that, I've completely changed the subject of the topic. Maybe we should call every thread on here "Random Chitchat," or at least the ones I post on. D

Randi (The Artist Formerly known as Guitar Chick) (guitarchick) Ahahaha, yeah absolutely.
And off-topic forum discussions are my specialty.
