OK, I'm signing up for the Highlander level. My list isn't firm yet, but will almost certainly include these:

3. The Sunday Philosophy Club. Alexander McCall Smith
4. Something by Muriel Spark
5. Something by Val McDermid

I completely forgot Val McDermid. I've never read anything by her but always planned to. Will add her to my list. Thank you!

Hi, Cath! Yes, this would be my first McDermid, too. This challenge should be fun - can't wait to get started!

Hello, Joy. Oh, yours too? I'm not sure where to start with her, to be honest. Will have to investigate.

I meant to add that The Sunday Philosophy Club is very good. I've read seven or eight of those and enjoyed them all.

I can't wait to start either. Very excited!

Finally read my first book for the challenge - The Only Problem by Muriel Spark. Nothing to do with Scotland, in fact it was mostly set in France. But Spark of course was born in Edinburgh. I've had this one on my TBR list for many years, and definitely enjoyed it - though maybe not as much as some of her other books. Now I'm torn between exploring a new author or just going with more Dame Muriel.

Love the sunday philosophy books - a new one due out fairly soon i think. Have been anxiously awaiting it. I like listening to them on CD.
