Welcome to our group! Let's get to know each other :)

I'll start us off:

I'm Karla, and I've been at David C Cook for three months now. I work as the Social Media/Interactive Marketing Specialist, which basically just means that I maintain and engage on our social media platforms and run social media campaigns for our authors' book releases.

Some of my favorite books:

Mere Christianity by C.S. Lewis The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien Passion and Purity Learning to Bring Your Love Life Under Christ's Control by Elisabeth Elliot Blue Like Jazz Nonreligious Thoughts on Christian Spirituality by Donald Miller The Things They Carried by Tim O'Brien My Utmost for His Highest Traditional Updated Edition (My Utmost for His Highest) by Oswald Chambers As Time Goes by (The Californians, #2) by Lori Wick

As you can tell by the lack of David C Cook books on that list, I have a lot of DCC books to catch up on ;)

Hi all!

I'm Renada, and I'm addicted to Goodreads. Also a total Anglophile and Tolkien geek. :)

I'm a former English major and started at David C Cook as a copy editor but later crossed over to the dark side of digital marketing. :) Now I manage ebook promotions (check out www.dccebooks.com), hunt for new authors, and enjoy the great team here at Cook.

A few of favorite books ... The Last Unicorn (The Last Unicorn, #1) by Peter S. Beagle The Mystery of Marriage 20th Anniversary Edition Meditations on the Miracle by Mike Mason The Lord of the Rings (The Lord of the Rings, #1-3) by J.R.R. Tolkien

message 3: by Beth (new)

Beth (bbulow) Hello! I'm Beth, and I'm very active on Goodreads. I am a group moderator for a group here on Goodreads and am active in several others.

I'm also a former English major, and while I would long to be doing something in the literary world, I work as an Admissions Coordinator and office assistant at a university.

I read mostly fiction, with a bit of non-fiction thrown in there. I have too many favorite reads to name, although I always feel safe naming To Kill a Mockingbird & Ella Enchanted as I've read both of them more times than I can remember ;)

Susan | 12 comments Hi, I am Susan, a retired school teacher/school librarian. Books have fascinated me my whole life. When I was in grade school, we lived in Japan. No TV, what do you do? You read. I love mystery, thrillers, historical fiction. If the summary intrigues me, I'm up for it. Years ago, I read a bunch of Oprah's picks and many of them were just too too depressing. So pleased that I discovered David Cook Publishing. Since joining this group, my to-read list has exploded. Do any of you hyperventilate about not making it through your wish list? :)

message 5: by Sue (new)

Sue | 3 comments Hi! I'm Sue, and I am a retired elementary who taught the four major subjects for many years. However, during my last several of teaching, I taught Language Arts :) and Social Studies...and was a happy camper! I read historical fiction, mysteries, contemporary fiction, and just a bit of nonfiction thrown into the mix. Reading is a passion in my home, and it's rare when I go a day without reading. I am in charge of the organizational aspect of my neighborhood book club that meets once a month! What fun it is to discuss a book we've read, especially when there are differing opinions! I have enjoyed the three David Cook books that I have read so far and look forward to reading more!

Michelle Griep (michellegriep) | 2 comments Hi gang! I'm a David C. Cook author and am thrilled to pieces to be one. I've long admired Lisa T. Bergren and Travis Thrasher, my 2 favorite Cooksters. I live, write and teach Civics, U.S. History, and Creative Writing in the frozen tundra of Minnesota. The best thing about cold weather is snuggling up with a book. Mojoboy31 | 18 comments Hey, all. Name's mojo, and I'm 23.
I've been a Christian my whole life. I didn't discover the amazingness of Christian fiction until about two years ago. I somehow thought CS Lewis was the one and only great Christian author; just kinda assumed the rest were "Hallmark fare". I actually discovered Christian fiction through goodreads. (still using it to discover great books)

I've been active in online Christian communities since I was like 13. I'm a mod in a few different Christian groups here on goodreads. And a few others around the web.

Favorite books: The Last Thing I Remember (The Homelanders #1) by Andrew Klavan Crazy Dangerous by Andrew Klavan Blink by Ted Dekker Rebel (The Brides of Alba #3) by Linda Windsor Hurt (Solitary Tales, #4) by Travis Thrasher

message 9: by Karen (new)

Karen Stoller Hi! I'm Karen, marketing manager for the fiction titles at David C Cook. Reading fiction is my passion and I like most genres. I've learned so much about myself and the world by reading stories created by others. Sure am looking forward to sharing with you!

Hey, Karen. How are you?

I did finally get my copy of Hurt. You were right, it is the best in the series. I gave it a five star review.

message 15: by Mojoboy31 (new)

Mojoboy31 | 18 comments Dee wrote: "Do you read a lot of books from this publisher, Mojoboy?"

Yeah. I've been greatly impressed with each one I've read... I read all four Solitary Tales, and I read all three of the Brides Of Alba series... I think there's more but not sure...

message 16: by Dee (last edited Nov 24, 2013 07:58PM) (new)

Dee Mojo:

I've read Ginger Garret's Lost Loves of the Bible trilogy and really enjoyed them...especially the Lost Diaries of Queen Esther; Esther has been my favorite Bible story since as long as I can remember.

And I have also read Elizabeth Musser's Two Crosses triology; the first one became my favorite book!

Oh, and I just read your introduction above; what are some of the Christian groups you are on here? May I join? :)

Dee Cool; thanks! I've recently started actively participating in groups and didn't even think to look for Christian ones, other than this Christian Historical fiction one I am a part of. :) I'm clicking the links now...:)

message 19: by Julia (new)

Julia Reffner | 3 comments I basically love to read, as I'm sure many here do. I'm a stay-at-home mom/homeschool mom who writes/blogs/freelances in her free time. I write and review (my reviews aren't CF though but in the fields of education/parenting, women's fiction, literary fiction, etc) for Library Journal. Some of my favorite David Cook authors are Ginger Garrett, Marybeth Whalen, and Travis Thrasher.

message 20: by Dee (new)

Dee Hi Julia! Welcome. :)

I love Ginger Garrett! Have you read her Lost Loves of the Bible series?

message 21: by Julia (new)

Julia Reffner | 3 comments Dee, I LOVED Desired (read it for a review) and really want to read the others.

message 22: by Dee (new)

Dee Julia, Desired was really good. My favorite was Chosen. Esther has always been my favorite Bible Story, and Chosen was amazing!

Phronsie (montanamomma) | 1 comments I'm Phronsie. I mostly do mom stuff. We homeschool our three kids. In my spare time (hahahaha, "spare" time...) I dabble in photography and read books. I write blog book reviews for several Christian publishers as well as authors who have found my blog and asked me to write a review for them. Um, what else? My favorite genres are suspense and fantasy but I also really like more educational books. I'm a nerd, LOL!

message 27: by Amy (last edited Dec 17, 2013 11:46AM) (new)

Amy (amyksorrells) | 3 comments Hello! I'm Amy K. Sorrells, a David C. Cook author. My first book releases 3/1/14, and I can't wait to share it with everyone. The folks at Cook are some of the kindest, most talented in the industry, I believe, and I could not be more grateful or feel more honored to be debuting with them. As far as books go, well, like most of you, I can't get enough! My favorite genre is literary fiction, especially the more poetic authors like Kent Haruf and Alice Munro, and I've listed a few of my all-time favorites here:
How Sweet the Sound by Amy K. Sorrells Redeeming Love by Francine Rivers Benediction by Kent Haruf To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee The Secret Life of Bees by Sue Monk Kidd Abide with Me by Elizabeth Strout Night (The Night Trilogy, #1) by Elie Wiesel The Prince of Tides by Pat Conroy The Violets of March by Sarah Jio
I'm a mama to three precious teenage boys, and I've lived in Indiana all my life. I love traveling to the gulf coast with my family, gardening, and upcycling junk and furniture with paint and nails and hot glue guns. I also am privileged to work as an RN caring for adults and pediatrics. I'm busy, but never too busy for words, and in fact, I'm in the middle of editing my second, stand-alone novel right now! Come visit my Goodreads page, or my website sometime. So nice to "meet" you all here!
Amy K. Sorrells

Madeline Wolfe | 1 comments Hello, everyone! I am Madeline and I am a homeschooled senior in highschool. I absolutely LOVE to read! I read a huge variety of books - Fantasy, Bible Study, personal financing, biographies, science.. I will pretty much read whatever I can find! I really like the classics and have read a whole bunch of them. My favorite old timey authors are Jane Austen and Charles Dickens.
Some of my favorite books are The Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien, The Chronicles of Narnia by C.S. Lewis, and The Inheritance Series by Christopher Paolini.
Right now I am into reading a lot of stuff like Francis Chan, Kyle Idleman, and Jefferson Bethke type books. I read "Not a Fan" recently and it was awesome!! So was "Jesus > Religion."
Look forward to seeing all of your comments and reviews!

Josh Baker | 1 comments Hello,
I'm Josh. I'm 23 years old and am currently enrolled at Liberty University doing their online program to earn my Bachelor Degree in Religion. I Graduated from Fruitland bible College in Hendersonville with my Associates in Religion and Church ministry in December 2012. I have felt God call into ministry and am currently on a Core Team for a church plant in my home town. I love to read and mostly read things that are ministry, theological, ecclesialogical and discipleship oriented. I've just started using Goodreads because I honestly just need a database too organize what I've read and what I want to read. I'm new to this whole group thing so we will see how this turns out. Anyways, that's me...

Shannon | 3 comments Have been a fan of David C Cook for years, and found this site last night via something on Facebook. BUT before I get all involved can you please tell me if this is mainly a group for USA? I have seen three giveaways today, all for USA only. I am from Canada so a little disappointing but better to know than to continue to be so. Thanks.

Hi Madeline! Welcome :) Love Jefferson Bethke! Last year (before I came to David C Cook), I helped run an exhibitor booth for my work that was right next to Jeff's booth (for his nonprofit Claro Candles) at a conference, and got to meet him. Really cool guy :)

Which books have you read by Francis? And we actually have a Kyle Idleman book coming out in March! ;) AHA The God Moment That Changes Everything by Kyle Idleman

Shannon: I have gone back in and changed these two current giveaways to in Canada. I'm very thankful that you mentioned it. It's not that we don't love our Canadian friends but sometimes have had shipping issues with a reader/reviewer being charged a duty upon receipt (which is never my intention) and being unhappy with us. In this case it was just an oversight on my part to not list both. Feel free to register for the giveaway now. We appreciate you!

message 43: by Shannon (new)

Shannon | 3 comments Thanks for letting me know. IF you mark it as a gift, then we in Canada don't pay duty.

Looking forward to being a part of this list.

message 45: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 6 comments Hi! I'm Sarah. I'm a lifelong bibliophile and I enjoy writing book reviews. I always have a stack of books awaiting me and can never keep up with them, but that's the joy of literature! So many books, so little time! I'm coming to this group on the recommendation of author Miralee Ferrell, whose work I absolutely love, and I'm hoping to find some other Christian books to add to my ever-growing TBR list! :-)

message 46: by Miralee (new)

Miralee | 5 comments Hi Everyone! My name is Miralee Ferrell, and I'm sorry I'm a bit late at introducing myself here. I'm thrilled to be part of this group, but even more so to be part of the David C Cook family of authors. At the present, I'm writing a series of three historical romances for Cook, all part of the Love Blossoms in Oregon series. The first, Blowing on Dandelions released last June and the second, Wishing on Buttercups, release yesterday, so I'm quite excited! These books have a strong romance thread, but just as strong of a women's fiction thread, dealing with issues and struggles that are still common to women today--mostly dealing with relationships and fears. I'm also under contract for a set of 4 middle-grade horse novels starting next year.

I look forward to getting to know the members here and take part in some of your discussions. And I hope it's ok to mention that I have a readers group here on Goodreads as well. If you'd like to check it out you can find it at https://www.goodreads.com/group/show/....

If that's not ok, forgive me, and moderators, feel free to remove that part of my post.

I enjoy different book genres, and I'm looking forward to finding some more Christian books to add to my to be read list.

message 48: by Tina (new)

Tina Hi, I'm Tina and love to read Christian fiction.
Recently was introduced to David C Cook books and love them.

I have a small "library" in our spare room/grandson's room and have to expand the book shelves from time to time to make room for more books. I have an ever growing to-be-read pile that I am not sure I will ever get them all read since I keep adding to it.

One of my favorite authors, Miralee Ferrell, recommended this site...so here I am. I have read her book Blowing on Dandelions and others and am currently reading her book Wishing on Buttercups. Love her books.

Blessings, Tina
