My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Healer is exciting, interesting, funny, thought provoking, has a great plot, lovable heroes, devious villains, great messages, and I'm about to use a word that I don't think I've ever used in a review before: enlightening.
Linda Windsor knows her stuff, and her extensive research really shows in Healer. I've been interested in Celtic and early church history, but never really studied it. This book uses historical figures and events as a backdrop for the characters and their journey.

This book might not be for everyone.
There are heavy Christian messages, some surprising gore, no swearing, but there are some suggestive themes.
Another possible detractor is the author's choice in dialogue style. Often in the book, the author uses creative spelling to indicate accents (or they could be the correct spelling in the older languages; I honestly don't know), and certain words in dialogue were very unfamiliar to me, but the author used them sparingly, and given context, I was never lost.

The sequel Thief appears to focus on different characters.
In all, I was very impressed with this book.
