Welcome to this venture into reading from the Guardian newspaper's 1000 novels. Thank you for joining the group; please do introduce yourself.
The goal is for us to choose and discuss three books every month, one each from three of the Guardian’s seven categories:
Comedy
Crime
Family & Self
Love
Science Fiction & Fantasy
State of the Nation
War and Travel
Members nominate books for the three categories chosen for that month, and the group then vote on which of the nominated books to read.
The relevant Guardian newspaper web page can be found here. This has an introduction to each category and a description/critique of each book. There is also a link from that page to just a list of the books, without the descriptions.
Lastly, there are book related discussions in the ‘Talk About Books’ thread, on the group home page, which you might want to take part in.
I am pleased to say that we are now officially affiliated with the Guardian, and thank them for this.
The Guardian list is an excellent one, and I look forward to sharing our thoughts and opinions as we read through the books.
