Anybody do an art cover for their book?

I started this almost three weeks before I started writing. Whenever I'd hit a block, I'd work on the cover. Anyway, I just finished it and I really wanted to share it with you guys. If you have any cover art for your book, I'd really love to see it.

Dude...that is awesome. I wish my talents were as broad as yours. I've had a picture in mind for my cover but no way to really implement it without like paying someone some money.

There's a lot of people offering to make covers and sketches, I'm having a lot of trouble on the volunteers following through. Is it more common to pay for covers and sketches than fishing for volunteers? First timer on nanowrimo so feel free to hold my hand a bit.

I remember seeing this guy's video on art commissions. Basically it's like a priority triangle with Cost, Time, and Quality. And - as with all priority triangles - you only get to pick two. So if you wanted high quality and a low cost, it's going to take a long time because the artist is prioritizing with those that pay. Especially those that pay well and want the work in a timely manner.

So it would be hard to find volunteers that will follow through. Not impossible mind you, just hard to find people that would do so. And probably near impossible if they were professional.

What exactly are you looking for? Do you want a photo-manipulated cover, something stylized (or even cartoonish?) or something like a hyper-realistic painting?

I haven't gotten a cover going yet, but I was thinking about looking around fiverr.com to see if there was someone there who looked like they could do a decent job. I've had mixed success there, but mostly positive; when the product isn't good, at least you didn't pay much.

This is my cover on the Kindle edition. Working on a paper book where the title is more of an original font. :D

I recently published this short story (available for free at Amazon and other e-book sites). I wrote it several years ago but never published it because I didn't think I would be able to create the cover that was in my head. But then one day I took out the old set of acrylic paints and got to work. I was shooting for a kind of retro-sci-fi look.

Okay, so I know I'm no GoodReads super-user or anything, but after looking at other people's, why is mine so much smaller?

Use the html code and either use the "enlarge cover" image or change the size of the image by altering the default size of width="40" height="100

Hey, Dave, what values did you actually use for the width and height? And where is this "enlarge cover" option?

I didn't change the width and height. The dimensions of the picture I used were ok. It didn't need changing.

If I had used the smaller pic I could have changed the dimensions to width="316" height="475" to get it to that size.

Here's how I put that picture in the post:

* I went to the Goodreads page for your book.
* I placed cursor over the book cover and clicked on the "enlarge cover" option
* I "right-clicked" on the larger image and chose "open in new tab" option
* I copy and pasted the image html code from (some html is ok) menu.
* I copy and pasted the url for the image into the html code
* I removed the part of the html code I didn't need
Deleted: width="40" height="100" alt="description"

Newest Cover for Zombies! series. Covers done by Harry Lamb for these. To make the cover show up I just right click on the cover on Amazon and then use that as my image source. I have this one at 400 X 600.
