I don't know if this counts as a 'spoiler' or not, but I want to answer one question that just about everyone asks me after they finish BoK: "Is it true?"

The fact of the matter is that almost everything in the book has happened to me at one time or another in my life. So, in that sense, this is somewhat of an autobiography. (There are a few exceptions.) The only thing in the book that is 100% fiction is that JP was never my neighbor, and I never knew him. In a very real way, he is the accumulation (mentally) of the five or six people I give credit to at the end of the book. They were really the ones that I 'interviewed' to find out how a genius would answer my questions. Feel free to get more specific if this didn't 'nail down' a specific scene in the book that you have a question about.

Jason Brown (Toastx2) (toastx2) | 6 comments i found it interesting as i read the book that every time i read the line about how bryce would have to kill jp (back cover and prologue) i mentally blocked out part of the text. in my head, it read that he DID kill him.

after finishing the book, i reread the back cover and realized my mistake.
~~

interestingly, friends at work read the back cover and all had the same reaction. it is almost as if it is inconceivable that a character may only "Consider" killing a man, but never act on it.

each person who reads this from my clan will have a similar surprising concern.. my fiance Jenn included, as i have gathered from statements as she reas it tonight.

LIKE.

Very much my intent, Jason. (I like messin' with people's heads.)

Wanda | 1 comments Let me start with, "I LOVE THIS BOOK"!! I was drawn to this book, and didn't know why at first. As I got into the book I kept wondering "why the back cover doesn't really do the book justice". But, after finishing the book, I realized the back review is perfect! It would give away the whole mystery of the book, and I liked to be surprised!

Bryce, I had a feeling JP was the only 100% fiction part of the book! Great job in making him seem real and getting one to think, could it be!

Jason Brown (Toastx2) (toastx2) | 6 comments Jenn, my fiance, is reading the book as we speak.. she just got to work and had to tear the book from her hands to do the whole "making money" thing..

she sent me this urgent text message:
Jenn via sms: "Is bryce going to be the last zion ala dogma and by killing john he is really finally releasing him of his servitude? Or is he just going to kill him to prove he wont die only to find out that jp was just a batshit crazy old man?"

Me via sms: "neither. JP is really an cyborg from the future who waters wild pansies for fun and eats dryer lint to keep his body from reverting back to his original time. bryce will stumble apon him naked covered in chocolate and find the love that only two men can share. they commit suicide watching baseball."

god i love that woman.
she will forgive my snarky rebuttal.
