The Count of Monte Cristo discussion

I was wondering if anyone has read the version of The Count of Monte Cristo available on Project Gutenberg and whether or not they would recommend it. If not, is there any translation considered the "best"?

Also, how about the audiobook versions available on Librivox? Anyone tried those?

I'd go with the Penguin edition by Robin Buss. Very good.
Not read the Gutenberg or listened to the Librivox ones.

The version on Librivox read by David Clarke is excellent. I know you asked this nearly four years ago but the next person who is wondering should know. Also, if you like a bit of commentary before and after each chapter tune into the Craftlit podcast.

I ended up reading a modern translation rather than the old public domain one. I think it was much more readable.

I've read the Gutenberg version for Kindle, and it was excellent.
