Chance to win :)
I would love to win this book! Kristen Cashore's Graceling is on my to-read list and I am looking forward to reading her work. Also my birthday is June 27th!
Liz: what a nice present that would be!I should not win the book because I am supposed to be studying vigorously for my Certified Management Accountant (CMA) certification and not reading great books. Despite that, I keep getting books from the library because I am BAD BAD BAD. Can't help it.
Anyway, good luck to everyone.
Lol! Way to make friends, Maria!!! ^_^
Absutively posolutely cool, and I officially abstain from winning--you Study Buddies deserve treats for being such a good group!
May the best Buddy win!

My birthday is June 23rd, I will be 33, and for some reason I just feel like, ugh I am getting old! I have 3 children who I taxi around to Kung Fu, Gymnastics, Tumbling, Swimming, and my rest is to take a book with me and read while they are doing those activities. My friend calls it expert parenting. I call it lazy, give my children to someone else, have them learn a new skill, and pay them money, so I can take a break parenting. I am also in charge of taking care of the Young Women in our Church congregation. I help plan a Camp in the summer for them, Activities every week, find teachers for them on Sunday, teach them as well, and in the mean time I try to connect with them and help them become the great women they should be. I have 30 young women between the ages of 12 and 18, and when I am not a taxi for my children I am generally with my young women. I like to read what they are reading, I read Twilight for that reason, and so reading a genre that they like is also a plus. So I would love to win this book, so that I could have a book during my "breaks" and also be able to recommend a new book to some young women.
I should win this book because I worked at bookstores for six and a half years and never once got to go to the BEA. However, I got to unpack the boxes of books that were ordered at the BEA, because my supervisors said they had my last name on them! (It's also Bea!)
I should win it because I'm always so short on money that I won't be able to afford it when it's out. I'll end up borrowing it from Alethea or Jane again and if it's as good as Graceling is, I'll probably refuse to give it back, :P.
I should win because by October (when Fire comes out) the Zombie Apocalypse will be well underway and I'll be far too busy decapitating the undead to be able to read the next installment of Katsa's story! Its not easy wielding an axe in one hand while holding open a book in the other!!
I would love to get this book because I live in Ireland and I wont be able to get it for a few months after it comes out and I wont be able to read it then because I will have to study for my leaving cert (which are like exams to get into college!)And also I got my sister to read Graceling and the study series and it got her hooked on reading and brought us closer as sisters!! :)
Maria V. wrote: "I was at BookExpo a few weekends ago and it's a great place to pick up free books from every publisher in New York. The biggest trend I saw was YA books - everyone was handing out YA books and AR..."Is there a deadline for answers as i am going to think long and hard about my reply!
First and foremost I would like to say that I absolutely loved both the Study Series, and Storm Glass, and I'm not just saying that! Ha Ha, anyways, I would love to win Fire by Kristin Cashore! I recently got to read Graceling and absolutely loved it! I should win the book because I am going absolutely crazy wanting to know Leck's background. While I realize Fire might not be all about Leck I read that it does have him in it, and I really am hoping that it will give some insight into how he became as twisted as he was in Graceling. I also loved the different character relationships in Graceling and if Fire is half as good then I will be ecstactic! Please oh Please pick me!
I was going to make a plea for we poor old Brits having to wait so long for copies of your books, Marie, and so one of us (me!) should have a chance to read what seems to be an excellent fantasy novel in advance.
However, I see from Kristin's page at fantastic fiction (.co.uk) that we are actually due to get 'Fire' in September so that isn't going to work is it?
OK, let's go for this. I am a Fire Priestess in real life, which is not the most usual of things to be and thus naturally drawn to this theme in fantasy whether high or contemporary.
As for your comments about the 'hotness' of the YA novel right now across genres, I totally agree. Part of it is certainly due to publishers (and their marketing departments) not wishing to alienate either younger readers or older ones so there is an encouragement to chose works that have a broad appeal.
The Harry Potter series certainly paved the way though lets face it 'children's fiction' always attracted a wide audience. YA just sounds better than 'teen' and let's face it we all wish to be young of heart and soul even if our bodies have become a little creaky.

I believe I deserve the ARC copy of Fire for many reasons, listed below:In September,I will be:
-fending off hordes of children dying to read the new Percy Jackson book (and trying not to use books as weapons of war)
-swordfighting with my family over who has control over my wedding in October
-pretending my bridal shower is really a bookclub (although my sister wouldn't let me have it at the library like I wanted to).
-training a new minion to do whatever I command
-plotting to take over the world (bwuaahahahaha)
-stealing my fiance's heart many many times with elicit romantic moments
Therefore, I need the sequel this summer, where I currently am lounging about only semi-planning to take over the world.
Oooh, ooh! I would love to wine Fire. Graceling was excellent! It was one of the few books this year that made me want to write arguments to the people who gave it bad reviews (or course I didn't, that would be rude). But if I win I will promptly write a nice little ode in praise.
I would love to win this book! I loved Graceling it was such an amazing book it had a little study feel to it, I could not put it down. I know her new book would probably be the same and I would not be able to put it down. My birthday is on the 28th and ugh I will be 37 but I know that reading these great YA books keeps me feeling like I am 18. I love to read and have my children gaining the same passion!
Wow, what a sweet give away! Now why should I get this book... I don't know! LOL!
I have for the last year been trying to read more books. It is a bit hard when you always have one of your six kids calling you.
I've previously signed up for three other Fire giveaways, all of them so far had huge amounts of entries and were chosen by random drawing. It seems like this is a very in-demand ARC!So I had the idea that it might be fun to spread the luck around a bit. Why not make a list of everyone who was willing to promise that they'd start reading the book as soon as they got it, finish it in a week or less, and promptly mail it out to the next group member?
We could probably get it in at least 6 different hands by September. If that sounds creative enough (and not too much of a hassle as a contest result), I'd be happy to organize it.
Well, I was about to say that I should win the book because I want it! jajaja (Spoiled of me I know) But I like Donna's idea and magnanimously ^_^ have decided it's great! So if we do this add me! er... please?
Wow - some really creative comments and ideas! To answer some questions... the contest is open for all international Buddies :) And the deadline for comments is June 27 - midnight Goodreads time (which I don't know what time this site is on - anyone?)
As for Donna's generous idea - everyone would have to be willing to mail the book - and then what about international shipping? I know it costs about $11.00 to send a book to the UK and to Australia. Plus the time for it to arrive may be a week or more (I had one book get lost and take 4 months to reach Spain). And if anyone is like me and takes forever to read a book...
I can pick a winner and five runner ups - but you might want to work out the details before we go this route :)
I would love to win Fire because Graceling was one of the books that got me back in to the YA genre and I can't wait to read it! Sometimes I go through phases of genres and at one point I thought maybe I was getting too old to read YA but after reading a few great books (Graceling included) I've put that thought to rest. :)Also, I think Donna's idea is great! There's a lot of things to consider (as Maria mentioned) but I would love to be considered if we went that route. I wouldn't mind having international shipping costs and I work next to a post office so I could have it shipped as soon as I'm done reading. And I read pretty quick so I could probably have the book shipped off a day or two after I get it.
Although I would love to be entered, I don't think I would have the time to read it until probably Christmas. Life is crazy now and I'm barely reading 6-8 books a month and those are my HH's and books I just couldn't wait to read any longer. I, of course, read Storm Glass as soon as I had it in my hands. But, Fire would be a new author for me and I'm afraid it would have to wait until I could fit it in. Heck, I don't know if I will even finish my 6 HH's this month because my husband had back surgery on the 2nd and I haven't had a moments peace since!
Well, I do like Maria's suggestion about 1 winner and then 5 runners up. Maybe the original winner will end up with the book back in her lap after they send it along to the five runners up?
Ah I was lucky enough to pick up a copy to Maria! I got the last one at the booth on Friday (which made me happy since I was worried about missing the signing Saturday...)
I like Donna's idea, maybe we could send it to those in the US first, then overseas, instead of sending it back and forth, and just send it around the world, if need be. I think there should be a time limit on how long you could keep it too. Somewhere around 5 days, and then post on goodreads when you have sent it, so that the next person would know it was coming. But ultimately I think it should be the winner's choice, because it would be hard to win a book just to send it around the world and hope to get it back. I also think the winner should get it first, and then get it last as well. So, if that happens....it would be fun.
I should win so that I can keep posting how I'm reading tons of books by my TBR stack grows instead of shrinks!!!!! I started off this year with just over 200, I've read 71 books and have like 250 books on the stack. I'd love to get to the end of the year, have read like 150 books and have like 400 books on my TBR for next year. Cause it keeps me hopping!!!Ok seriously, if I have 400 books at the end of the year I might cry. I don't have the room for that many books. Right now my books litter my house because I removed them from their regular home so I can paint. OMG what a task. Save me now!
Good luck to all you lovely ladies/gentlemen!I'm not sure I've ever done anything to deserve to win anything, but I'd sure be thrilled if I did.
I homeschool my son who is an avid reader and have a daughter very actively participating in book clubs. I know, if I win, that the book will get lots of exposure.
Ahhhhhh... LOL I didn't have a clue and I certainly wasn't coming up with THAT! THANKS Kristen!Ok, THAT is why I should win. Because obviously I've never won one since I didn't know what one was. hehe. Never to late to learn right?
Lol. Took me a while to figure out what it was too when I first started seeing the lingo on here - and I've actually gotten ARCs before haha.
Right I have gone away and thought about it and I have come up with 5 reasons why I should get the book.1. A little flattery never hurt :o) - Maria your books are truly wonderful however you already know that a I think I have told you like a million times :o)
2. I thought Kristen Cashore’s first book was fantastic and loved it.
3. The sob story :o( - I am slightly dyslexic and I used to find it really difficult to read, but a few years ago I really started to get into reading and now I can't stop! Please help me add to my collection and new found love of reading.
4. If not for me then for him! - I have utterly annoyed my boyfriend to death. He now hates this website as I am always on it and when I asked him to help me with 'The Plan'(You will find out bellow!) well that was it. He won’t speak to me if am on this sight and refuses to listen if I so much as mention you or your book (Maria - as I talk about it none stop to people and not always people I know)! And I now have to let him play his play station whenever he wants!
5. If not for me then for them! - I have not only annoyed my boyfriend but my friends and family.
Let me set the scene: Girls night in with some friends, we had dinner and watched a film, mean while I was making my posters and then made my friends pose for the pictures. My boyfriend and one of my friend’s husband came back, after we had kicked them out, to get dragged into the pictures too! My boyfriend was not impressed!!!!!

The next day I went to visit my family for Fathers Day, and I just happen to have taken my posters and camera with me – I know what luck!!!! My mum though I was being silly, so I got her back (I am in serious trouble if she ever finds out that I took her photo while she was asleep and posted it on the internet – but it would soooooo be worth it if I won)!!! My cat even came to help.

And finally the day after that I went to my Monday evening Capoeira class (Capoeira is a Brazilian Martial Art!). Well after a 2 ½ hour class I made everyone stay behind a little longer to pose for me. They all thought I was crazy anyway but now they just think I’m plain MAD!

I hope this shows you why I should get the book and how much I want it and thank you to all my friend and family for their help.
P.S Sorry for taking up so much room
Reema, That's awesome! If it were up to me, after all the effort you put into the contest, I'd still give the book to myself. LOL At least I'm honest. I'm just sayin'...
Reema! Wow...that's seriously impressive! I love, LOVE the picture of your mom with the sign on her lap - ROTFL!! And is your boyfriend the guy with the Batman T-shirt?? He looks...annoyed and disgusted :)
Brazilian Martial Arts - I didn't know about it before - hmmm....
Of course now I'm wishing I had ten copies to give away....
The guy in the batman shirt is my friends boyfriend. He was just being silly and was making faces the whole time. My boyfriend is the one on the left who refused to smile!ROTFL?
Capoeira is really cool, there are loads of fantastic teachers in the states. Look it up - Maria i think you'll like it. It mixes Martial Arts, Dance, Culture, Music, Acrobatics and all sorts.
Reema - You get an A for effort!!! I definitely think you deserve to win! Though I want the book just so I can add it to my horde. Seriously... you should have seen me wallowing in my book piles after taking everything off the shelves last week. Can you say dragon in pile of gold? Think Scrooge McDuck in his vault. It was a little disturbing. My husband just walked quietly away... as quickly as he could. I think I scared him.
Yes, I love my books more than him. ROFL
I wont be Rolling on the Floor Laughing if my mum finds out!!! Im 25 and still scared of my mum. I'll be in so much trouble.
Hopefully between you guys, my Sister, Gandma, Stepdad, and Cat we will be able to keep it a secret - i hope :oS
Reema - what would you do so I don't tell your Mom?? ;> Just kidding...although...did she email me for the referral contest....hmmmmm......I'll be right back.....Lady Ozma - I understand - one of the reasons I enjoy volunteering at the library is just being surrounded by so many books without having to dust them ;>

So.....I snagged an extra ARC of FIRE by Kristin Cashore (the lady who wrote GRACELING) - Kristin is a sweetie by the way ;> and I thought I would offer it to one of the Study Buddies since you picked her first book for the book club. (Alethea - I hope this is okay??).
How to win?? Just leave a comment here on why YOU should win this book (not due out until September - and the cover is gorgeous!) - the most creative comment wins :)
Deadline Midnight June 27th.
Good Luck!!
