For January 2014 the theme is Short Story Collections!

Rules:
1. Nominations are open until the 14th of the month. I will let us know which book has "won" on the 15th.
2. Books must be Christian fiction, or "clean" fiction to be eligible for this read.
3. Books are chosen using Random.org to make it completely fair.
4. One nomination per person. If two people nominate the same book, each person's vote counts. So the book will feature twice in the list to give each vote an equal chance.
5. Books must be the first in a series unless we have read the previous book.

Nominations so far:
1.An Amish Kitchen by Beth Wiseman et al (Brittany)
2.An Amish Gathering: Life In Lancaster County by )An Amish Gathering: Life In Lancaster County (Natalie)
3. Jersey Sweets by Janice Hanna (Melissa)
4. Schoolhouse Brides: Teachers of Yesteryear Fulfill Dreams of Love in Four Novellas by Wanda E. Brunstetter (Lorie)
5. An Amish Love by Beth Wiseman et al. (Kate)
6.Oklahoma Brides by Vickie McDonough (Rachel)

@ Natalie, I assume it means several short stories bound together in one book.

I'd like to nominate An Amish Kitchen, please!

message 5: by Natalie (new)

Natalie (creativecountry0407gmailcom) | 1132 comments @Brittany: Thanks for clarifying. I though we were not allowed to nominate Amish books in this group any more. I remember Lorie saying that if didn't nominate books like that we might not end up reading books by the same author's back to back. What's your second choice if this doesn't work?

I think that was just if we were nominating the same book for both categories, like if I nominated Amish Kitchen for this read as well as the regular Amish read...

Natalie (creativecountry0407gmailcom) | 1132 comments @Brittany: It's not the first in a series . I don't know if it can be read as a standalone. There are just so many new characters in the stories.e I apologize for making you change your mind. I will apologize in advance in case I'm the one who's in error.

Natalie (creativecountry0407gmailcom) | 1132 comments @Lorie: Thanks. I will keep my nomination the same even though I've never read the book.

Kate (liahonagirl) Please correct me if I'm wrong, but am I to assume that a short-story collection that also fits another one of our categories (such as Love Inspired, or Romancing America) would not be eligible?

Yes Kate those would all be eligible for this category too. I don't know if Love inspired has a short story collection, but Romancing America is an example. Any book that has more than one story in it would qualify. Actually there are a few Love Inspired that do have more than one story in it but I do not know if they are short stories? Short stories are usually 50 some pages? Let me know what you are interested in it probably qualifies and there are a lot of Amish ones in this category. Sometimes books can fit into more than one category.

message 13: by Melissa (new)

Melissa | 127 comments I would like to nominate Jersey Sweets by Janice Hanna. It has three short stories in it. I don't know that they are under 50 pages though . . .

@Melissa- I was asking a question there but some short stories are more than 100 pages but usually not in a book with lots of other short stories, but if it only has two in it then it might. Just nominate the book you want and I'll check it but I am sure most will all qualify.

message 17: by Kate (new)

Kate (liahonagirl) thanks for the clarification, Lorie! I'm going to nominate An Amish Love

@Glenda: you might want to nominate that book on the Amish Group read. This read is for short short collections. Then don't forget to come back here and nominate a Christian Fiction short story collection.
