Bill | 192 comments A new month, a new book. There are so many quotes by Neil deGrasse Tyson on Facebook I thought I'd give one of his books a shot. Space Chronicles Facing the Ultimate Frontier by Neil deGrasse Tyson

Reading To the Nines and I guess I forgot to update here. I had read a couple of comic book collections last month.

I'm listening to Little Women through Librivox.

I just finished Moon Over Manifest which takes place in a fictionized version of a town I grew up in. Abilene and I were the same age and living in the same community.

I just started reading The Chaperone and didn't realize that it was taking place in Kansas. It also has the Orphan Train. I was drawn into it because of Louise Brooks.

I'm currently reading The Summons by John Grisham. I hadn't read a book of his for quite a while.

Still listening to Little Women.

Found a PDF on my computer I had meant to read - some fiction based in the world of a roll playing game. I can not get the auto-link to work but the story is called The Trellborg Monstrosities - it is a Lovecraft type story.

Finished The Summons last night and it was pretty good. I was a bit disappointed at first, but the more I think about it the more I do like it. I think it points out that we often don't know or care about the other side of the story.

I'm just starting to read Wait Till Next Year by Doris Kearns Goodwin. It is about the 1950s Brooklyn Dodgers.

I'm enjoying Wait Till Next Year and highly recommend it for anyone that somewhat enjoys baseball. It is an autobiography of a biographer.

Mike (mikekeating) Still working my way through A Dance with Dragons (A Song of Ice and Fire, #5) by George R.R. Martin . This is a long one.

Bill | 192 comments A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens I broke with tradition the last few years and neglected reading an old favorite. Now I feel it tugging at me, so two weeks before Christmas I'm pulling out the old edition my family has had for many years.

I read that last year. I hated the play and movies I have seen, but really enjoyed the book.

I remember hearing about French Women Don't Get Fat: The Secret of Eating for Pleasure, and since I'm working on losing weight about 35 lbs this year I thought it might have some good advice. I pretty sure it is walk everywhere and end in moderation.

I'm also reading Wild: From Lost to Found on the Pacific Crest Trail and finding it just okay. I would not want to be friend with Cheryl, and feel she was very ill prepared for her adventure. However, I don't think she did this just to write a book. I'm reading it for a possible selection for World Book Night in which has quite a few books to select from to give away on April 23. The applications are open now.

Finally finished Little Women / Good Wives. I was a bit disappointed reading this as an adult. Just a little to perfect. My new audio book is Call of the Wild by Jack London.

I read Call of the Wild when I was a boy, though I was a big reader even then I can't say it made much of an impression on me since I recall almost nothing about it. But seeing all the "classics" you & Jocelyn have been reading has made me think I need to re-examine some of them myself, I may start with Hemingway or Camus. Just finished Dickens' A Christmas Carol. Also thinking perhaps of attempting "A Tale of Two Cities"

Bill | 192 comments My prior comment about "classics" aside I do have my next book in hand. The Last Policeman (The Last Policeman, #1) by Ben H. Winters is an apocalyptic/murder mystery from the look of it. Don't know how much will get read with Christmas upon us, but there's always hope for a night of being snowed in!

I'm switching books between my mom for two upcoming book clubs that meet one day apart. I'm switching between All God's Dangers: The Life of Nate Shaw and Appetite for America: How Visionary Businessman Fred Harvey Built a Railroad Hospitality Empire That Civilized the Wild West. Enjoying Appetite for America more.

Mike (mikekeating) As far as the classics are concerned, I'm still working my way through the Sherlock Holmes books off and on.

Going to start reading Bad Monkey by Carl Hiaasen now. I need a break from the Stephanie Plum books. I have enjoyed the other Hiaasen books I read so here is hoping this one is as good as the others.

Ronald, I'm on the wait list for #20 of the Stephanie Plum which I think is Takedown Twentyat the library. You are 1/2 way done with that series.

My parents are also waiting on the library to read. I figure by the time I get that far in the series there will no longer be a wait. ;-)

I'm trying not to buy books. However, we have a ton of little free libraries. I'm trying to get books read and placed in those. However, I have two thick book club books to read this month and my spring semester of another is beginning on Feb. 5 so my reading is dictated by others until sometime in April.
