I Read Therefore I Am discussion

Our Seasonal side-read for Christmas will be Hogfather by Terry Prattchett. Will be reading this one throughout December so feel free to jump in anytime!

Yay! I'm looking forward to this - believe it or not I've never read any Terry Prachett before.

I've never read Terry Pratchett before, so this will be interesting

I've got the adaptation of this as well and I'm sure I must have watched it but I really can't remember - am waiting till I've re-read the book first though! Has anyone else seen it?

I'm really enjoying it - it's a real comfort read (despite Mr Teatime). Thanks for nominating it Hilary.
I haven't seen the film - but it's hard to imagine how it could be done right - maybe if it was done in the style of Stardust? Let me know what you think of it.

I have to admit that I'm also in the group of haven't read any Terry Pratchett. Always thought they were maybe more of a blokes' thing. So, this will be a good introduction - I'll look for it in the local library or download on Kindle and then try to catch up with the rest of you. At least I'm ahead with Roger Ackroyd.

I'm loving this more and more the further I get (I've just got to the Oh God of Hangovers) I adore the sock and pencil eating monsters :o)

I'm dying to start this one - have forgotten so much! The Oh God of Hangovers was a touch of absolute genius on Prattchett's part ;)

I'm so pleased everyone is enjoying this. I adore Terry Pratchett but I do accept you have to share his rather unusual sense of humour. I've loved every book I've read of his and I have a shelf of about 15/20. They are always what I read if I need cheering up.

I haven't got as far as the sock and pencil eating monsters, but would like it known that I have lived with a thing-eating monster for many years. It doesn't appear to be fussy (perhaps it's actually several monsters), it eats sock, pens, scissors, knitting needles, tape measures, cutlery, you name it....

Lol- our house monster also eats cutlery - particularly tea spoons, and bits of paper with important things written on them :0)

Ours eats all of the above and also hair bobbles!
Is it this book with the god of things getting stuck in drawers as well?

I can't remember Laurel and I haven't started this yet. I have loads of favourite characters though apart from DEATH, who I just love. Have you read the one where he goes on holiday - I think its Reaperman? I also love the Wee Men, but I think they only appear in books where Granny Weatherwax is. Just love them all basically!

Yeah I love the Wee Free Men!!! They are awesome.
Death is one of my fav's too - the first one I rad when I was a teenager was Soul Music which is sooooo funny! I think I've probably read most of them now - due for re-reads I think!

I've never read any Pratchett so you're all getting me very interested with your comments. However, my key point of focus is to finish Sense and Sensibility by the deadline! I'm off to Leeds for a couple of days and so may get to finish it tonight as I while way the hours in my hotel room.

I've read Hogfather a couple of times, but I might read it again. My favourite Disc World novels are the early ones - especially ones featuring Granny Weatherwax & Nanny Ogg. Though come to think of it I also like the DEATH ones.
Wintersmith is another good one for this time of year. It's in the Tiffany Aching series (the wee - free men ones).

Started this one now - so funny!

I absolutely loved this - it made me laugh as much as Three Men in a Boat does (a lot). It's also very wise about human nature - I've now ordered the 3 previous Death books (all in one) - can't wait.

Am halfway though already and can't stop giggling - Pratchett is so funny and irreverent but at the same time, makes some really keen observations about human nature as Lee says. Enjoy the other Death books, they are equally good!

I 're-read this over the weekend and really enjoyed it this time. Funny and wise!

I'm just glad everyone seems to have enjoyed it, Laurel. I've just finished it myself and enjoyed it as always. As someone said earlier it's such a blend of fun and wisdom. I just love the grotto episode!

Yeah that was awesome - I'd forgotten the little cameo role by Corporal Nobby Nobbs and Constable Visit but it was great that they were in it as I love the Watch books as well.
