There not quite as professionally done as audiobooks for sale - though sometimes they are - and they usually don't have all the music and effects of a full audiobook production - but ... they're free. And many are excellent.

Check out http://podiobooks.com/

Linda Boyd (boydlinda95gmailcom) | 108 comments Paul, how do you listen to these??? I am old school on audio books - I check out the CD's from the library and listen to them in my computer and in my car. Do you have to have a player???

My pleasure, Cheryl!

They're mp3 files, Linda. You download them to your computer, tablet, or smartphone (and, they're virus free), click on the file, and it should start playing for you.

Listening in your car would take a little more work. You'd need a program on your computer which could "burn" at CD, from the mp3 file. (It's entirely legal.) Or, some cars come with mp3 players, in which case all you'd need to do is copy the mp3 file from your computer to a CD disk.

Let me know how this goes for you.

Yeah - they're great to listen on long drives, and for that matter on shorter ones, too.

Here's a 2007 podcast interview I did about podiobooks, in case that's of interest http://www.general-files.biz/download...
