As we all know a lot of people die in this book. But something that I noticed that kind of bothered me was how quickly everybody just got over death. Like the part where they find out that Matthew betrayed them and Dawson kills him. A second later they'e in the car cracking jokes like nothing happened. Matthew was like a father to them and it was like they didn't even care about him. Was anybody else bothered by this or am I just making a big deal about nothing?

It was a little weird I guess. Though by that point they had already been whiplashed before, they'd been through so much, that they had gone a little numb. Probably deflecting it with jokes. I bet it would be something to ponder over later.they did n't have time, they had to keep going , to survive

i think i was mourning Andrwe longer than they did ... just when i started to like the guy he dies so sad but we actually didn't really get to know characters that died and i kinda suspect that it was Matthew behind Dawson and Bethany thing... so when it all went down in the book and i knew someone will die i was just like please not Luc and Archer couse i started to like them and i think i fell more conected to Luc and Archer than i ever was to Ash and Andrew.

I loved this book, but I was sad that Ash and Andrew died. Why couldn't they take them with them? It's mean to leave them there after they die.

I keep noting the same thing in a lot of books and it upsets me so much. i mean, hello, somebody you used to know just died.I mean, considering our good old main leads have hearts of gold, they should be upset about anyone's death but that's not the case in most of the books i read.
But in case of Matthew, maybe they just didn't have a lot of time to process through what went down in the house.
But i think its a bit insensitive not to give enough importance to the death of some lead character.

They were kind of sad but Mathew betrayed them and he was like a father to them and he BETRAYED them by turning them in to the DOD

I think everything happened way to fast for them to even process what has happened. Sort of like an out of body experience. They saw it happen but had to move on to the next thing that was trying to kill them to fast to even comprehend the full extent of everything

i don't know..now that you say it it seems that way but i get they felt betrayed.i mean daemon and dee lost their brother.dawson and beth had to be tortured because of him.Andrew and Ash's death happened because of him.

It didn't affect them as much as it should have no but you've got to put urself in there shoes, yes he was like a father to them only he was quick to pass Dawson over and just get on with life letting the other siblings believe they were dead as he secretly knew they were going through hell.

Then obviously he didn't feel to bad about it beacue he did it again to daemon twice!!! I get that he was trying to make the others safe but that's 4 people he put in danger and that's got to count as more of an enemy than a family member who's suposte to love you!

If someone betrayed me and it was someone I knew forever I wouldn't really care if they were hurt or dead because they hurt me so it's only fair they get hurt too. When Dawson died yeah they mourned, but if I were them I would be depressed, but everyone is different I guess. Mathew had it coming though. Just saying lol

I was really beginning to like Ash and Andrew (especially after Andrew did the jig) I was distraught when they died, and same with Adam dying. What does Jennifer have against the Thompsons? Yeah the deaths were really quick, and I found that irritating. But like Kayla said, Matthew had it coming. He turned in Dawson and Beth, just like he was turning in Daemon and Katy. The funny thing is when I was reading Onyx and they said someone from the inside I immediately thought MATTHEW but dismissed the thought later...

OMG I just started thinking Matthew didn't betray them! That was so horrible! I hated that so many had to die(( I seriously broke down after Ash...

And then we get that freaking cliffhanger with everyone freaking out!!! I just hope no one else dies (so much for wishful thinking...)

it didn't make sense. the whole tompson family is dead and not one of the blacks are.

not that I liked Andrew or ash, and I want the blacks to die, it just didn't seem fair.

I think that they were upset about Matthew's death, but they were more angry because of the betrayal. When Andrew and Ash died, they were very sad and wanted to take them, but they were also being chased and they didn't have much time to mourn because they were more focused on surviving at the moment.

I just finished rereading this book, and I completely agree. As much as I disliked Ash and Andrew throughout the first 2+ books, their deaths really hurt me. I feel like I was mourning their deaths longer than the characters in the book did. They had to leave Ash and Andrew's body behind at the end of one chapter, and were literally laughing and smiling at the very beginning of the next chapter.
