Aaron Meyer (loptsson) I just finished reading this and was very impressed by it. I could totally see this happening very easily. Anybody else read it yet? Any thoughts on it?

I've just gone from part one into part two, and I'm completely blown away by the book. I was glad to finally have a grounding in the year at the end of the part one. It's weird to see our world as distantly as we see the Roman Empire. There's just enough of the incredulity towards our time, and lost knowledge, without being obnoxious about it.

Loved the description of the horrible monster known as The Fallout, and the brief fear over finding one of its shelters.

Aaron Meyer (loptsson) I was very interested in how he wrote the book in historical episodes, it definitely worked out well for the story. I liked the touch with the Wandering Jew being mistaken for Liebowitz himself. If one believes in history being cyclical in nature then this story would be right up their alley.

Lost a few reading nights while dealing with a power outage. Finally wrapped this up and holy crap does the book get a hell of a lot darker. I knew something heavy was coming up, as my edition has an introduction that makes the point of contrasting the author's suicide with the debates that take place in the last chapter.

I was left disappointed by our last bit of Catholic science fiction two months ago. This was a rather more interesting (and, I felt, realistic) approach to how religion might adapt to a typical science fiction plot line.
