Moran stood on stage staring down at the increasing group of children below. Children of ask ages lined up in rows. He felt nauseated, how could they send twelve year Olds into that hellish nightmare, to be slaughtered. It would be even worse if one of them were to win, they would come back traumatized. They would never be the same again. He knew that from experience...
Justin stood with the others his age. Sure, he was a little nervous, but what were the odds of him getting picked. He only had one slip in the bowl. He looked ahead, bored out of his mind. He just wanted this to be over so he could go back to the house and get on with life.
Kaya looked up as she walked into the town center, holding her younger brother's hand. "Luke, you won't get picked. I promise, okay?" She murmured softly to him as she bent down slightly and looked him in the eyes. The boy was 14, but he was too scared now to care about looking foolish. She kissed his forehead, "Plus, I would volunteer for you anyways." She murmured softly, ruffling his hair before she stood straight up. All the people around them were chattering nervously. Her parents stood in front of them, leading them to a better place in the crowd so that they could see the stage.
Moran stared down at the crowd, noticing a young girl with a young boy. He supposed they were siblings. Considering that they vaguely resembled one and other. He knew how it felt to look his younger sibling in the eye, to know they were safe. The thought brought joy to his heart, but that small tid bit of joy soon faded when he realized the possibility of both of them being picked. He felt a pang of worry punch him in the gut.
Justin looked around. So many looked nervous. Should I be? He shook the thought out of his head. He wasn't going to be picked. He couldn't. He wouldn't. But he still felt that nagging feeling in the back of his head that he still could.
Kaya sighed as she held Luke's hand, shifting her weight to one foot as she looked up at the stage. On the inside, she was a wreck. If her brother got picked, of course she'd volunteer for him. Though there was one thing she had a problem with. She could't kill people, it wasn't in her nature to. It brought her to tears many times at the mention of everything that went down during the games. Though she knew she'd have to toughen up, if she even got picked.
