Sophia rushed out to the town center, signed in, and waited for the reaping to start with the others her age.
Sam. What an interesting character, as many would remark when they met him. Not quite your average career, yet so much one in so many ways. From a respectable family of victors, volunteers, and game makers, Sam was definitely an intriguing figure. And he was also ready for the games, ready to win.
Sophia tensed as the nerves swept in. She could still back out. But then her family would likely disown her. It was now or never. She couldn't shake the feeling of imminent death off her mind. It would go away once it was done with, she was sure.
Sam waited, rather bored with the whole 'wait anxiously' thing. He just wanted to get this over with, and get home. Waiting wasn't really the best thing he did.
Sophia rolled her eyes. Hopefully this wouldn't take forever. She just wanted to get it over with. The sooner she got through it, the sooner she'd be back home.
Sam wasn't worried in the slightest. He'd trained for years for this; volunteering wouldn't be a problem. And if his name got drawn, whatever. He'd still be in the games. He'd win the games.
Sophia was many things, but patient was not one of them. Just call the girls name so I can volunteer already, she thought to herself. She was never more ready. She was itching to get a weapon in her hands. She had put in a lifetime of work and it was not going to be wasted.
Sophia smiled. She hadn't even needed to volunteer. She walked up to the stage smiling. This was easier than she had thought.
