I just can't leave well enough alone. Every year (2012 to 2014) I tell myself to K.I.S.S., yet every year I end up finding multiple challenges I want to try.So far this year I'm planning to do my original challenge - "52 books in 52 weeks.", the Series Challenge, and the Jan. 2014:Resolution Challenge. Plus, I'd like to see how active I can be here, year round, with the Monthly Group reads.
The good news is that, of the four group reads for January, The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe will fit into all three of my current challenges while the other books will fit into two of them.

lol!!!
Yay! I've completed my first book of the year, earned my first 50 points in the series challenge and checked my first task off of the Resolution challenge! Not bad for two days work!
I've decided to add a personal challenge to go along with the 2014 series challenge. I knew I had a lot of unfinished series but I didn't realize how many standalones I had picked up the last few years. So - I made a list of the top 30 I want to read, and when I've finished 5 I can add 2 more to the list. My goal is to get the list down to 0.
Question: If you start a book in one month and finish it in the next, for which month does it count? In other words... I just started Polaris 10 Short Stories today (Feb. 27th), if I don't finish it until Monday (Mar. 1st) does it count for Feb. or Mar. ?
Well... GENERALLY speaking, if I was being all official about these challenges, I would say that it would count for February, and that only books started on/after March 1 would count for March challenges... but I'm not that anal about it, so it counts when you finish it. ;)

Actually, the "official rule" is fair. I could just put the book aside for now, read something else, and restart it this weekend. Oooh! If I can pull that off, along with the other books I'd like to read, I could actually up my level for March!! Cool!
Depends. If I start it more than a week before the end of the month but don't finish it until the next *cough* The Way of Kings *cough* I leave it as the month I started it in. But let's say I start a book today that I finish next month I'll count it for the month I finish. I have a personal log I keep of what I read in what month.
I always count books in the month it is finished. It all balances out in the end as there is almost always a book that is in progress. It's either skimping on this month or that month. This year I did my usual overreach on my challenge list of books leaving me little time to diverge from the given path. Thankfully I'm obsessive enough to actually keep to the challenge. But next year, next year I promise no more than [challenge books this year] - [40 books] on my list of books.

:-D
I think your challenge is going well!
My challenge is going well, but I think I just realized that I can't actually make it to Nigeria from Trinidad and Tobago. I'll have to remove Nigeria and find another country to add in.
Nyssa wrote: "Question: Are we allowed to change our Monthly Goal levels, or is that considered cheating?"Of course it's not cheating. Change them if you want - it's your goal!

Cool. I think I should have gone with my initial plan, but got all carried away by the Maaaaaadddnnneeeesssssss of it all! LOL
I haven't put anything together yet, but I have a couple ideas. I think I'll slap something together tonight. :P
Alrighty, so I'm being completely lazy this month apparently and keep putting off doing this challenge. So, Emily, if you'd like to go ahead and set one up for this month, you're more than welcome - otherwise, this month is a freebie. :D
If it turns out to be a freebie, I'll still fail. Until I can get over this read for 30 seconds-sleep for 5 minutes-repeat cycle...
Yeah, I'm personally okay with a freebie month as well. In fact, we can even make it a "thing". Every 4th month is a free, "catch up", month.

I joined the group in April and missed out on the previous challenges, but it seems that there have been some fun and creative ones. From the above it seems like April was a challenge-free month. I'm curious as to what's supposed to happen in May (apologies in advance if this is the wrong forum or premature timing). I'm hoping I haven't missed all the fun :)
*cough* Uhh, well. You see... Uhh, Becky seems to have lost track of time, and suddenly it is May. So, there will be a challenge in May... it will be different from the previous ones... and it will be posted tomorrow. :)
Ooh - challenges! I haven't done anything but the series challenge thus far... Perhaps I should join in ;)
Me, four. I knew this was going to be a tiring part of my challenge. But sheesh, I haven't finished a country in almost two weeks now.Next year, NO MORE LARGE READING LISTS!
Suggestion: Make a separate Folder for Becky's awesome "Owned & Unread" Challenge... I won't be surprised if it takes off.
2nd Suggestion: For anyone looking for a challenge I would like to recommend The "I'll Try Anything Once... Challenge!", courtesy of Mrs. J - 2011.The Challenge is to read at least one book from each genre / category:

I decided to go for a catch-all folder for any personal goals anyone wants to post, rather than specifically for MY goal. Feel free to post the Try Anything Once challenge there. I think I'll go for that one as well. I wanted to do it before, but lost track. Sigh!

Cool! :)
Yes, it can be easy to lose track, especially if (like in my case) you get pulled into your favorite genre and therefore the others fall by the wayside...
I think I've come up with a new challenge for 2015:DNF Graveyard Challenge: For those books that I’ve started reading and then quit but never took off the TBR list. This challenge is to assist me in making a final decision: read it or strike it off the TBR forever.
I think this will help some...
Oooh, I have quite a few of those.Right off the top of my head:
Earth Abides
The Twelve
Les Miserables
Revival (surprisingly... I was in the middle of my slump and just never went back to it.)
I'll go with you on this journey, MrsJ. Want to put it in the Personal Challenges folder?

Yup.

That is an excellent idea!!
My DNF-Backburner (vs DNF Forever) list isn't that long, but with 4 challenges running already, I don't know if I should dare try to fit another one in for this year. I'm going to have to think on that.
I do love the idea, though!!
