Lori Beautiful scene where Salind as Redeemer calls out to Mother Dark. Will she answer, has she sensed the recent conflation of dark?

message 3: by Lori (new)

Lori Ah, Seerdomin is the one who did what he could for Toc.

Silvio Curtis | 403 comments I like that scene too, and the whole "exile of the Tiste" theme. I don't expect Mother Dark to answer any more than Salind does.

Monkrat sounds like he must be Bottle's evil twin.

The conversation between Crone and Rake confuses me. I was assuming Crone was the raven who saw Karsa and Samar and Traveller, and she was going to tell Rake, but then she didn't talk about it as far as I could tell.

Endest Silann makes a pilgrimage to the river that reminds the Tiste of Dorssan Ryl – the river that flowed through the ancient Tiste Capital of Kharkanas. As the Tiste who have come before him, he is disappointed. But he does run into a retired Caladan Brood who is trying his hand at fishing.

Caladan Brood then asks a couple of poignant questions which I believe relate to the Tiste’s relationship with Mother Dark

‘I do not,’ he said, ‘believe much in forgiveness.’
‘What of restitution?’

When Endest indicates that he does not expect Mother Dark to forgive the Tiste their sins Caladan responds by asking about restitution. For the Tiste to be able to make up for their crimes would be a rather ambitious undertaking I imagine

Cold pooled in his gut. By the Abyss . . . such . . . ambition. He felt the icy trickle of tears on his fire-warmed cheeks. ‘I will do all I can.’

Samar and Traveller catch up with Karsa. After Karsa is satisfied that Traveller is not competition for Samar’s affections, the three head for Darujistan.

Salind wakes up in the Tiste temple where healers have attended her. Salind calls on Mother Dark to end the Tiste Andii’s grief at her turned back

Bless your children, Mother Dark. They have suffered long enough. I say this in gratitude to your own priestesses, who have given me back my life. I say it in the name of redemption. Bless your children, woman.

So in relation to Mother Dark we have questions now of Forgiveness, restitution and redemption. Perhaps for redemption to be possible the Tiste have to make restitution and mother dark has to forgive?

Seerdomin follows some pilgrim camp thugs and kills them. He now has a list of agitators and their plan to topple the Tiste Andii and sets out to hunt down as many as he can in the city – using that as an excuse to delay heading to the camp itself to deal with the head honchos.

Seerdomin would have to go back to the camp and the very thought sickened him.

But Seerdomins actions have been seen by the enemy through the eyes of rats who have been bound by one Monkrat

Summoned, yes, by their master, the one known as Monkrat, an amusing enough name, implicitly contemptuous and derisive. What none of the man’s associates truly understood was the truth underlying that name. Monkrat, yes. The Monk of Rats, priest and wizard, conjuror and binder of spirits. Laugh and snicker if you like . . . at your peril.

Nimander and co enter Bastion – they see what might be a small skykeep.

I just wonder if that thing is somehow connected with the arrival of the Dying God.’
‘Connected how?’
‘What if it was like a skykeep? A smaller version, obviously. What if the Dying God was inside it? Some accident brought it down, the locals pulled him out. What if that machine was a kind of throne?’

Nimander and Skintech head for the altar but there are too many crazed worshipers standing in their way. They seem happy enough for Kallor to go through and have a look – but no way will they let the Tiste pass. They have Clip’s soul and they intend to keep it – I guess.

‘So we prepare to wage war against an entire city? A fanatic priesthood and a god?’
‘Yes.’
Grinning, Skintick loosened the sword at his side.

Crone reports to Rake. Something is going down. I don’t know what but Rake sends crone to recall Endest from his pilgrimage. Whatever it is, Rake sees it as important that baruk understands. Baruk is in Darujistan – Traveller and Karsa and heading to Darujistan. A lot of powerful people converging on Darujistan

‘Does Baruk understand, Crone?’
‘He does. More or less. Perhaps. We’ll see.’
‘Something is happening to the south....’
She was silent for a moment, head cocked. Then she said, ‘Ten bells have sounded.’
‘Ten.’
‘I shall be on my way, then.’

I Have no idea what ten bells signifies other than it’s time for something to happen.

My what a convergence we have a coming.

We have Lady Spite on her ship. My man, Iskareal is there with wife and flying monkeys. We have a couple of Nom's and an so far unknown person at the manor that Scorch and Leff have been guarding. Plus (or included) a person unknown that Spite is concerned about.

The castillion seems to be non-human. Oh and to top it all off, Harllo has found himself a T'lan Imass friend.

Yet.... I still haven't finished the bloody chapter, Fener's shrivelled balls! How long is this chapter going to on for?

I LOVED the Samar/Karsa reunion. "Put me down!" *THUNK*

I can't wait for them to get to Darujistan!

I was totally thinking it was Bottle at first. I wonder if Monkrat has a goatee?

This is my last chapter again for awhile. Another book to read. I shall endeavor to catch back up next week, but then I'll be gone for a week with who knows how much reading/good reads time.

This chapter was only 35 pages or so in my edition. The previous one was 60 and the one before that was like 75. So this one is rather short by comparison. lol.

I have established that my book is screwed up. I have over half of chapter 11 in my chapter 10.

Sumant Endest Silann makes a pilgrimage to the river that reminds the Tiste of Dorssan Ryl

In their conversation Caladan Brood mentions something about the river which Silann also does not know, but does not mention it upfront.

Samar and Traveller catch up with Karsa

There was a sentence here that chains were hanging loose from the carriage does it know relate to karsa in the sense that he is now free of crippled god's influence and is no longer the mortal sword of crippled god.

Salind wakes up in the Tiste temple

Salind dreams about souls going through her, so is she know Shield Anvil of reedemer and Seerdomin is know Mortal sword i think.

They seem happy enough for Kallor to go through and have a look

So can this dying god be basically the crippled god??
