So, I think it was pretty obvious that he was going to die at the end. Still saddening. I'm glad he had a peaceful day though. At the end of the novel he really came to terms with his life, which I thought was really good. He finally came to terms with aging, something that he had been fighting throughout the second half of the novel, which, I believe, allowed his this peaceful death.
I found the bit with the plaque really interesting. Everyone seemed so afraid to tell the truth of what really happened during the war, and I'm still not sure why.
I also found his involvement in SPK to be rather interesting. He was so naive about what was really going on which is weird especially after his stint with the NID.
The Monday thing really came out of nowhere for me. I definitely didn't think she was a minor, but did think it was weird that she wanted to sleep with LSM because he was pretty old at that point. The death of Leo also hit me pretty hard. I felt like he was one of the last people LSM really cared about, besides Gail, and the last person living that he was related to by blood. (that may be false, I can't remember when his mother died.)
I think the move to France was really good for him. He always seemed happiest while he was in France, except for while he was in Africa; that seemed to be the time where he was happiest aside from when he was married to Freya. He relaxed a lot and got to really just live without having to worry too much. But by God when his dog died I cried so much. I held it together for Freya and Stella, but poor old Bowser. It doesn't help that my old dog shared the same name. What a sad part.
