Colleen Earle (unphilosophize) I think we can all pretty safely say that we all know what my feelings are about the majority of books out there that discuss such topics as PTSD, Depression, and alcoholism. I'm sure we've all read my scathing review of The Perk's of Being a Wallflower or heard my protests about It's Kind of a Funny Story that I'm not down.

This book, however, conquers these subjects with grace and realism. I find it most enjoyable how they are not directly discussed, as they are in the other novels, but just an intrinsic part of the character and his life. His repetitions of "I need to drink less" is a sign of his problem. He floats in and out of relationships, both sexual and serious, as if it where not a huge deal, rarely getting attached to anything.

I found the part when he is released from the prison in Switzerland only to come home to find Freya and Stella were killed in a bombing killed my soul. Such sad.

Then when he got divorced and was no longer able to see Gail.

Then when Leo died.

God, this is turning into a depressing book.

I really find it interesting that it was D&D who killed Sir Harry Oakes, or at least that's what's being implied. I hope that mystery is solved before the end of the novel.

I also hope that LSM finds a new source of income seeing that it looks to be unlikely that he will be returning to the USA to continue as an art dealer.

What does everyone else think?
