the ending is almost too perfect. i don't want sunshines and rainbows. Craig says he's only on the road to recovery, but he's only been recovering for 5 days. he learned too much about himself in 5 days. as much happened in the 6 days that the book takes place in as happens in 2 months in my life.what i'm getting at is i find it a little unbelievable.
what does everyone else think?
Right at the beginning, a good question is posed I never considered--is Humble pretending to get drugs? I mean, I'm sure it's not the first time that sort of thing were to happen. It's something I'll think about for a while...
Music class was so adorable, I love Craig finally feels comfortable in an environment. The chemistry between Craig and Noelle building is sweet too.
Neil is so positive, I wasn't expecting great things to come out of him though. I love that he suggests Craig volunteers in the hospital after he's released. That's something that would certainly benefit Craig. The place is an Anchor for him, and I think that could go back to what Monica said before. He could still use this place as an Anchor, and even though the people might come and go (besides Jimmy, who knows with that poor soul), he'll still have the environment which seems to be calming for him.
Ugh Nia, I can't get over how much I really don't like her. In the beginning she seemed like a positive person, or at least someone who wouldn't use Craig, but look at her now. She doesn't even really like Craig for him, she likes him because he's willing to have sex with her. I'm glad he finally gets over her. Took him long enough.
You know, I never realized throughout the book when he got his blood pressure done, he was always perfect until he mentioned he wasn't perfect. 120/70 instead of 120/80. I wonder if the change is because he's off because he's finally getting better or he's about to leave. I don't exactly know what to make of it, especially because he goes back to 120/80 right before he leaves.
I loved that he drew brain maps for everyone and he got the Egyptian music for Muqtada. He's been behind everyone the entire time he's been here and he's never once thought of them in a negative way. He appreciates them all, and that's so perfect. The brain maps were so cool, I wish I could have him make one for me to see what he interprets in me.
The last line "Live. Live. Live. Live." gave me chills. What a perfect way to end the book.
But you know, Colleen, I know what you mean. That's what's been off. I really like the book, but it's so... clean. I think you know what I mean. He seemed to be really okay in the very beginning besides needing medication to go to sleep the first night. I'm wondering why it's so clean and idealized though. Ned Vizzini wrote it after his experience, but I'd think it would be rougher than this. Was he sugarcoating some of it to not dwell on personal stuff? I don't know, that's exactly what was off though, thank you for wording it for me.
