What books made great movies?

message 2: by Caru (new)

Caru Catching Fire

message 3: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca Agreed!

One of the worst book to movie adaptations is probably Eragon. That was cringe worthy

message 4: by Resa (new)

Resa (dunstan) | 4 comments The Hunger Games is pretty good. Along with Harry Potter, The Blind Side, Charile St. Cloud, The Soul Surfer, and a bunch more as well.

message 5: by Resa (new)

Resa (dunstan) | 4 comments One of the worst movie adaptations for me was Cirque Du Freak by Darren Shan. The book is really good but the movie is kind of crap.

message 6: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie (goodreadscomsteph_books) CATCHING FIRE also hunger games, all the Harry potters, TMI

I'm kinda glad that they didn't continue the series because it would have just been disappointing.

I liked Catching Fire but I thought the first Hunger Games was better. Woody Harrelson (Haymitch) was spectacular in the 2nd though so huge props for that. I've enjoyed the Harry Potter movies but I feel like they rush through a lot of the subplot.

Eragon was a train wreck and I'd hoped all they would have to do is emulate Lord of the Rings. LOTR were fantastic in my opinion. Anyone seen Ender's Game is it worth the buzz?

Harry Potter
Percy Jackson
They did really good on the Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe: )

Lion, Witch and Wardrobe was spectacular. The imagery was just magical to me. I'd love to see them continue that series!

What I think sucks is they didn't start at the beginning. If you've read the books, you'll know what I mean.

message 19: by Adam (new)

Adam (amilesb) | 60 comments I read them a long time ago but I don't remember them. It wouldn't bother me if they are out of order... Hobbit comes before Lord of the rings but was made after and it still works.

message 20: by [deleted user] (new)

Hmm, true. I wish they'd at least make the rest though.

message 21: by Allison (new)

Allison Janezic (allilj) | 12 comments The Lord Of The Rings
Seabiscuit (Aside from the changes a racetracker would pick up on, a great story)
The Joy Luck Club (A GREAT MOVIE!!!)
Interview With The Vampire
A Time To Kill
Sense and Sensibility (The Emma Thompson version)
The Notebook
Catching Fire
Jurassic Park
The Horse Whisperer
Harry Potter
The Hunger Games
The Princess Bride
The Mortal Instruments (was not as bad as critics said it was)

One I could not get into was Beautiful Creatures. They had some of the best actors in the industry in that film. The male lead was terrible. They could have found a better actor for him. I'm going to wager and say this is one instance where the book is far better than the movie.

message 22: by Laura (new)

Laura (blueeyebooks) Catching Fire definitely! Also The Lord of the Rings was pretty good.

The books are a lot more fun and I'm not one of those 'the book is always better'. The reason I say this is the movies are too rushed and I think the charm of Harry Potter is in the tiny interactions with Hermione, Ron, Malfoy its what really allows the reader to identify with the characters and growing up in school.

message 26: by Sara (new)

Sara Shaw | 3 comments The host was horrible!! The cast was soooo wrong and all the scenes were so not related, like camera shots. I adore Harry potter movies and hunger games movies and probably I'll love Divergent too.

LOTR was fantastically well done. I've heard the Hobbit is a Trilogy... haven't seen them but could Hollywood get anymore money hungry. I mean 250 page book into 3 movies?!

I have read the book and I have seen the 2 movies. And Peter Jackson could at least film 2 movies instead of 3 but i think he does that so that he can focus more on the battle in the last movie.

message 35: by FantasyFan J (new)

FantasyFan J (ff101spch) | 16 comments Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers (even though I didn't like that one)
Catching Fire

The Hobbit sorta needed a trilogy. That book was so good, I don't know how they could make that one movie. And trilogies are cooler than two movies.

I agree with you on 2 of those, Percy Jackson, was one of the WORST book to movie adaptations I have ever seen, probably right behind Eragon

Enders game is okay, they kinda rushed the ending, and he doesn't age, do it is just Ender the same age throughout, but it is an OKAY movie adaptation
