Dexter Radcliff’s elderly great-aunt owns an ancient Native American artifact called the Talking Horn that allows one to speak with the dead, and when Dexter’s carelessness causes the Horn to be stolen he is plunged into a nightmarish struggle with the Lost Society, a vast narco-terrorist network of occult assassins led by a dead sorcerer. But Dexter’s problems have just begun—soon he will have to contend with parasitic brain-eating worms, sinister Longevitals who can live a very long time thanks to a hermetic treatment, a “Twisted Zoo” containing among its horrific exhibits Dexter’s murderous atavistic twin, “spectreholes” that open spectral doorways to other worlds, and a hellish monstrosity older than mankind that is preparing to return to earth and return earth to primordial chaos.

This grisly novel is not for the timid. The first chapter entices the readers like a bloody fishing lure, and each following chapter drags them deeper and deeper into a swirling maelstrom of horror.

If you're not sure whether you'd rather read The House of Worms or The Bad Box, let me briefly tell you how they differ. Though they're both supernatural horror novels, they are very different in tone, pace, and style. The House of Worms has a more complex plot, more characters, more action, and certainly a wilder climax. The Bad Box is a quieter novel with a slower pace and a more sober tone. That may not sound as interesting (and I admit a preference for The House of Worms), but I think for some readers a quieter tone can feel creepier.

Hmm, the month is nearly up and it seems nobody wants a free review copy. I admit that I'm a bit discouraged.

Is the synopsis unappealing? I spent much more time laboring on this novel than on the other four I've written. This monster took two years of hard (VERY hard) work, and I'd hate to see it wither on the vine because of an unappealing blurb.

I'd be willing to give away a couple free copies with no obligation to review, but I'm not sure if Lisa would allow that. I expect I'm already stepping two or three feet outside of the usual lines of R2R by saying any of this, but I really do wonder if the book's blurb is off-putting, and if so what I can do to fix it.

This one is my baby, and I want to see it go to college and maybe become president one day.

Well, I finished! Definitely a good read and I should be posting a full review tomorrow. I had been kinda apprehensive given the wording of the synopsis, but the hook really drew me in.
