I love the 2005 version!

Erica (storybookend) The BBC one, because it has a lot of detail. But I love the Kiera one too.

Aerieyalle *Goddess of Vampires* Kingdoms (goddessofvampires) 2005 version!

Jennifer Gentry (authorjennifergentry) | 1 comments Definitely the 2005 version. Up until then, my favorite was the version with Sir Lawrence Oliver and I promised to never watch and to always hate the 2005 version. Well, needless to say that didn't last long. LOL! The 2005 version of P&P is actually my favorite movie, period. I can watch it over and over. Just this year, after everyone telling me I needed to see the A&E miniseries with Colin Firth, I finally watched it. Wasn't impressed. And don't get me started on the BBC movie, "Stuck in Austen", or whatever it's called. Ugh!

Anna (SylviaGrant) 2005 version! Everyone is perfect in the movie. My favorite by far is either when Elizabeth is yelling at Mr. Darcy or them dancing together or My Top Fave: "You have bewitched me body and soul and I love, I love, I love you!". You can tell he's struggling so hard to get out such a sweet thing to Lizzie.

Lost in Austen is my second favorite despite everyone's reviews on how much it sucks. I am enjoying it despite myself.

Maria Koul (MariaKoul) | 1 comments In my opinion, we shouldn't compare these two. I mean, the one is a six-episode series, and the other is a movie. How can we compare two different things?! Both are great for their own reasons, the perfomances and the actors, but since the one is series and the other a movie, we cannot compare them!

Aafia (aafia_a) I really like the BBC series, but I haven't seen the 2005 version yet.

Spa | 2 comments I saw the Laurence Olivier, BBC, and Keira (2005) versions.
The Olivier version had very little to do with the book, and just irritated me. The ending made me furious.
Like someone above said, the BBC one just didn't click for me. IDK why. everyone raves about Colin Firth being the perfect/stereotype Mr. Darcy, but I didn't think he was that awesome. I thought he did a great job, but I think the director just changed Mr. Darcy and gave Firth his own version of Darcy.
My favorite was the Keira version. Some people say it wasn't accurate, but I think it was. I also know that many people who saw it without reading the book found it dull.
My favorite Darcy is maybe Laurence Olivier. I think each of the 3 had their own parts of Darcy that they did best.
My favorite Elizabeth is Keira Knightley without a doubt. She did an awesome job, and really portrayed Lizzie's depth of thought and emotion, and showed her range of humor really well.
The one character that I didn't really feel was done justice in all of them was Caroline Bingley. You may think I'm nuts, but she's one of my favorite characters (I tend to like the bad guys) yet in all the movies, none of them really made me love her anywhere near like I do in the books.

Kate (stitchlovesbooks18) The 1995 Keira Knightley/Matthew MacFayden is probably the one i think was the best done (Director Joe Wright is excellent when best known for his "period piece" movies - also did Atonement)

Interestingly, one of the best actors I've ever seen portray Darcy , named Eliot Cowan, was actually in a "spin-off" version of P&P called "Lost in Austen". Lost in Austen was shown as a 4 part mini-series for TV by a UK channel. You can often rent it from Netflix ,and possibly your local library. In this version, Elizabeth Bennett switches places in the story with a 21st century woman named Amanda Price.
The reason I give Cowan such high praise is because I think he has the character of Darcy nailed. He acts Exactly in ways you would expect Darcy to act if he was confronted with a person from the 21st century who does not quite 'fit in' in his world ...
he's broody, judgmental, and yet, you know he is intrigued by her (even if she does seem to know the story and characters inside and out; she's still a person with VERY modern sensibilities - hence the 'fish out of water' behavior.)
For a P&P lover, this movie is worth the time to watch it because you'll get all the "inside" jokes. I like the twist they put on what Wickham's character does in this version of P&P - it gives you a very different picture of his motives and character.... I really liked the actor who played him as well in this one.

Me too! I feel like there are little details that are missed on the first watch, but with every rewatch, they make the story more real.
