Thanks so much for reaching out! I'm so excited that our book was chosen for the book club this December! That's awesome. Becca (my co-author) and I have answered your questions below.
1. What was your inspiration for Addicted to You?
Krista: I'm not sure one thing inspired Addicted to You. I really wanted to write in the POV of a female sex addict, so that was initially how it came about. For all our books, we're inspired by a variety of different things, but movies and television have a huge impact on our writing. We love family dramas and especially darker subjects. My favorite movie is called Another Happy Day, which is actually one of the most depressing movies I've ever seen. But it has that sort of raw emotion that we try to capture in our books.
Becca: I agree with Krista! We're really drawn to characters who have darkness in them -- and that darkness isn't always something that makes you sympathize with the character. We wanted to challenge ourselves, to tackle a subject that really should make you loathe the character. Addiction isn't pretty. It's nasty and these characters are inherently selfish. But we're so enamored with films and tv that make you empathize with people you normally wouldn't, and we were willing to try to do the same -- to get to the core. Not everyone is going to sympathize with an addict, but if we break through to anyone that's a success in our eyes :)
2. What was your greatest challenge, when writing this book?
Krista: Hands down, making two addicts likable. Addicts are usually the villains in books, but in our series they have to be the heroes (or in this case the anti-heroes). And we also wanted to show addiction as realistically as possible without people hating the characters in the process. It was difficult to balance.
Becca: What Krista said. We went through the book many, many times trying to make sure the addictions were done right. We wanted it to feel as real as possible.
3. What was your all time favorite Christmas present you ever received?
Krista: I loved my Magic Attic doll when I was little. They're like the knock off version of American Girl Dolls. But I always thought they were a little cooler ;)
Becca: Oh, my Magic Attic doll too! Ours were best friends lol. It's one present that Krista and I talk about all the time because we remember how excited we were when we received the dolls as kids.
Thanks again, and I hope you have a wonderful Christmas as well :)
