Did anyone else think that Mr. Wallaker's wife was a reference to Mr. Rochester's mad wife in Jane Eyre?

Nope, never occurred to me.She turned into a major spender: clothes, charity luncheons, all that bollocks, total plastic-surgery queen. When he went abroad she started sleeping with her personal trainer, filed for divorce and tried to fleece him
A bitch who spends too much and drinks too much is not quite the same thing as a women with a mental illness in the days before the availability of psychiatric drugs and quick divorces.
