What's the Name of That Book??? discussion

Hi, I'm new to the group. I was weondering if someone could help me out - I read a book at least 10 years ago and I don't know when it was written... A guy in Spokane with a promising athletic scholarship - goes on a ride with a friend - they have an accident and he ends up paralyzed - goes through the mill with social services... anyone know what I'm talking about?

I am from Spokane and usually keep up with books or movies that I know have a Spokane link. This one does not ring a bell. I will keep an eye out for it.

It sounds to me real close to David Edding's The Losers, one of his non-fantasy books, and my favourite of what I've read of his. I'm not sure it was Spokane, but somewhere in the Pacific northwest. Hope it helps!
